Murphreesboro, TN 1987 Question
I just got through transferring this tape to CD, and cleaning it up. While doing so, I found the only city mentioned is Memphis, TN. Could this possibly be another mislabel?

It's undoubtedly another one of those cases where the exact town name is not known as well as the adjoining big city (Memphis). That's why out-of-staters say that the (Great Western) Forum is in Los Angeles instead of Inglewood. Inglewood is one of a bunch of Los Angeles suburbs. |

Thanks Dave! It's odd though. You'd think if they were going for the closest big city, it would be Nashville, instead of Memphis, which is about 200 miles away. |

Fleetwood Mac-Nov.17,1987-Murfreesboro, TN-Charles M. Murphy Athletic Center I have both the Great Western Forum shows (Dec.6-7,1987) locations listed as Los Angeles, Whereas with other shows, That I have from the same venue, I have listed as occurring in Inglewood (I'm just too lazy to change LA to Inglewood  ) Good luck on the transfer to tape  |

I live in Tennessee, so maybe I can help. Murfreesboro is just outside of Nashville, and it is home to Middle Tennessee State University. There is a Murphy Athletic Center on the MTSU campus, so I would say that it is highly possible that the labeling is correct. I doubt that anyone would know that there is a Murphy Athletic Center in Murfressboro unless they actually attended the concert there. Of course, that is just my 2 cents. :)

Isn't it also Charlie Daniels' hometown? |

Yes, kinda, Charlie wasn't born there. He was born in North Carolina, but Charlie decided to settle in Mount Juliet, which is between Nashville and Murfreesboro. Murfreesboro is where he held many of his famous Volunteer Jams though. |
TN Native too, 23 years, f*ck cold weather!!!
Yeah, the Murphy Center, where they played in 87 is like 30 mins from Nashville, or less, the way I drive. I went to that damn college and I do not care for that town. Its quite a small arena. Not sure how many it seats, but its no more than 10,000 if that. In the late 80s, the only other indoor place available in Nashville was Municipal Auditorium(Fmac played there in 77) the old Nashville arena. Lots of Stars such as Tina Turner, Phish, and Garth Brooks played that damn Murphy Center well into the 90s. The Nash arena must of been booked too at the time. I will admit, I have been all around the dressing rooms and private areas of that Murphy Center Arena. So it was kinda cool to get the Stevie vibe as I walked down halls she walked down klonopined out in 87(roll your eyes). |
