Maria McKee in SF--2/23

On the off chance there are any Maria McKee fans in the Bay Area:

Maria is playing the Swedish American Music Hall (above Cafe Du Nord) on Feb. 23rd. It's an acoustic show and based on the setlist played in recent gigs in the UK, will have a lot of old favorites from the Lone Justice and early solo days.

Just putting the word out because there has been almost no advertising for the show. Three years ago, she cancelled a gig due to poor ticket sales--but there had been almost no promotion.

She's one of my treasures and such a highly underrated artist. Can't wait to see her in such an intimate environment.

I love her!!

Sweet! Hopefully she will find her way south. I've seen her a number of times with and without Lone Justice and it's always a great show.

I worship her.

Although, I'm kind of tired of her intentionally derailing her career. She's one of the greatest rock vocalists ever. I saw her in LA when she released Peddlin' Dreams last year.

I hope she gets her muse back soon.

I honestly think she doesn't care about her career. She seems like an odd person to begin with, and someone who started way too young, producers tried to mold her into something she didn't want to be (the new Linda Ronstadt), so now she just does what she wants and releases her work independently.

So while I think she is totally underrated, she clearly has played a major role in that.

I'm praying that she does "Panic Beach"; it's been in a couple of her sets this year.

"Panic Beach" is a regular for her- and it's fantastic. However..... for me.....

If she whipped out "Can't Pull the Wool Down", I would faint dead away. If she ever gets around to touring with a FULL band (with horns, etc.), I would love to see "I Forgive You". But, that has as much of a chance of happening as Stevie playing "Battle of the Dragon", "Violet and Blue" or "Ooh, My Love" live.

I don't think Maria can afford one horn player, let alone a full band!

I heard that on her High Dive tour, she drove around in an old van that kept breaking down and making her miss the soundchecks.

Bumping this to report that this was the best Maria show I've ever seen. It was all acoustic, alternating between guitar and piano. She did some rarities, including "A Good Heart", which she said Dave Stewart basically stole from her and gave to an artist in Europe who got a hit out of it. There was a bit of Jimmy Iovine-bashing also. Girl is very bitter about the Lone Justice days, and talked about how she was only a teenager.

She did a cover of Backstreets that gave me a chill that only Maria can produce.

For anyone in LA, she's playing the Hotel Cafe on March 12th, wherever that is. I think I'm driving down for it--if there's anyone who plans to go and wouldn't mind company, let me know through PM.

Sounds like Fleetwood Mac back in '75.
