Titanic

Does anybody else LOVE this movie?

I have loved it ever since I saw it in the third grade. I am pretty sure I saw it 4 different times when it was in the theaters. All with different people who wanted to see it. There is something so eerie about this movie that I cannot explain. I think the fact that this actually did happen, these people did die(not the same people), and the ship did sink and is still there. The underwater footage in that movie is all real...James Cameron went down 12 different times and got footage. I just bought the special edition DVD set that is about as big as a Dictionary, but I still love it. There are lots of great deleted scenes and I find the alternate ending very fasinating.

SPOILERS (just in case no one has seen it)

I just figured out the ending when I put it in about a month ago. I never knew at the end that Rose died and was going to her "heaven". I always thought, that the end sequence was some sort of dream to the Old Rose. To Me that is one of the best endings of a movie ever...I just love it.

Kate Winslet is astounding in this and she is one of my favorite actresses. I love all her movies.

This may sound very very very strange but I think I may have died on the Titanic in a past life....I know it stounds soooooo strange.....but ok im done :]

I think it's one of the best movies ever. It says something when you are moved every single time you watch a movie after nearly 10 years.

I'd be interested to see those special features.

How old ARE you? I saw Titanic 3 times in the theatre.....in COLLEGE. F*ck.

Anyway yeah...I love the movie, but primarily because I'm a bit of an amateur historian of the actual event. I've read pretty much every book out there and I remember seeing the movie for the first time and picking out what were actual events and what was fabricated. I appreciate James Cameron for being true to actual events while spinning a fictional love story. Its a bit of a guilty pleasure for me because its really not that cool to love that movie as much as I do.

I was fortunate enough last year to see a Titanic exhibit of over 300 relics from the wreck sight. I was nearly brought to tears.

I'm 16.

I do know a little history about it. Some little facts here and there. But I would be truely amazed if I could see that exhibit. But I also think Its kind of bad that they are taking things from it. I think everyone should remain where it is.

Many people have the same complaint, calling it "grave robbing" and such. But is it any different than the exhibits from Egyptian catacombs? Or Grecian relics? Its a part of history, and some of those Titanic relics have been returned to surviving family members, who were more than happy to receive them.:)

Thats a good point....It just seems not right to me..

I hear there are survivor stories. I'd really like to hear one. I read online somewhere that the ship actually had no suction when the end of the ship went in and some guy actually just kicked right off of it?

Yep, the cook. They showed him looking over at Rose in the movie (with the big chef hat on) as they were going down. He was French...I think his name was Jean or something starting with a J.....anyway, he said that he held onto the stern until they hit the water and he just swam away. He said he never even got his hat wet.

In the deleted scenes they go into him a little more. When the ship is sinking they show various clips of him drinking. Then theres a small clip at the end when the Carpathia comes....there are about 50 people sitting on a lifeboat turned upside down and he is on it...I always wanted to know what happened to him.

Well, he lived!!!

He did say he'd had a fair amount to drink that night and it assisted in keeping him warm in the cold water.

There was a 20 year old guy by the name of Jack Thayer who was also pulled from the water. He was the one who had said that the feeling of hitting the icy water was like 1000 knives in your body -which you know was a line in the movie delivered by the fictional Jack.:)

I'm probably boring everyone but you!!

I know so many stories of the actual people on that ship its borders on insane. Remember that scene with the old couple lying in their bed with the water swirling around them? That was Isador and Ida Strauss and that entire scene where Rose gets on the lifeboat only to jump back onto the ship actually happened between the Strausses. Ida got onto a lifeboat and clibed back onto the Titanic and said to her husband "where you go, I go".

Wahhhh. Its all true.

When I left the theatre, 2 girls were complaining behind me:

That was stuiped the way the made the boat sink, couldn't they have written a happier ending?"

*sigh*
