I agree. Beautiful. And enjoyed Minnie Driver as La Carlotta, good work!!

I saw it to in London on stage, in 1997. The same week as Cats (I enjoyed vacations in a Webber way!!!)

Now after watching the movie, the whole week I've had that inside my mind, getting wallpapers from both websites (movie and stage), listening the soundtrack, and remembering older versions.

I remember one from the 40s or 50s (guess is not the oldest one with Lon Chaney), and the story is different. The phantom wasn't born deformed, but was a musician that killed somebody and a woman who watched it threw an acid to his face. then he hides underground since that.

An extraordinary piece of work. I just sat there in Her Majesty's with shivers running up and down my spine.

Glad to find a fellow fan!

you know, the sad thing is...I used to be able to sing that line and the following "ahh" parts and hit the notes...I hadn't done it in a couple years and now when I try it I can almost get there but not quite. it makes me sad... :)
