Mick at NAMM

I attended the NAMM conference this past week/weekend. On Thursday Mick attended the opening breakfast. He spoke, but not much. The main focus of the event were the other gentlemen attending, including the Governor of Arkansas.

However, Mick also did a short NAMM Session on Creativity. Sir Ken Robinson essentially asked Mick specific questions, and let Mick ramble on for as long as he could. I thought the format would have been much better for a session longer than 20 minutes, the short time made it choppy at best.

Mick stood outside the booth for about 20 minutes waiting for his session to begin. He was very friendly, and chatted with people.

No real new information came out. A short video was shown to introduce Mick, all clips we've seen on "Behind the Music" or any similar show. Mick talked briefly about how he started in the business, and the formats of the schools in England. He also talked a bit about letting new members of Fleetwood Mac develop their own sound instead of mimicking what the previous member had done.

I did manage to get a few (blurry) pictures from the event. However, they are all too big to post here. If you're *that* interested, send me a PM and I'll be happy to e-mail them to you.

That's really cool!

I was there on Saturday (I hadn't been to a NAMM show since the mid-80's)...went to the Renaissance Guitars booth to talk with my guitar's daddy, Rick Turner, then later (after walking around seemingly like for about 30 miles; lugging 50 lbs of brochures and samples), dropped by the Reverend Guitars booth to see Rick Vito play his promo set & talked with him for a bit.

In talking to Rick Vito, he told me that Billy Burnette was going to be playing a show at the Hilton that night with Mick on drums and Jack Casady (ex-Jefferson Airplane) on bass.

I love the NAMM show...it's like Disneyland for musicians.

I must plead ignorance and ask what does NAMM stand for?

National Association of Music Merchants

From the NAMM website FAQ:

Q: What does the acronym NAMM stand for?
A: Over its more-than-one-hundred-year history, the association has evolved from a national entity representing the interests of music products retailers to an international association including both commercial and retail members. The International Music Products Association’s name, NAMM, comes from the acronym “National Association of Music Merchants,” but the long form of the name is no longer used. Today, we simply say that NAMM stands for the interests of the global music products industry.

Although, Billy didn't seem too upset by it. I mean, Mick WAS playing with him later that night.

(You know, I'd love to have just one Fleetwood-McVie-Burnette-Vito-Bramlett gig.)

I'd take even a PUBLIC Fleetwood-McVie-Burnette-Vito gig. Of course, nothing against Bekka...just would like to see an all-male Fleetwood Mac again, for a change.

A drummer friend of mine attended as well. He called me after meeting Mick, he was so thrilled!
