Okay, I have to ask...

Am I the only person who wants to just beat the sh%$#!t out of people?? I mean...I keep reading this about really horrible things being done or said to people, and the victims are always terrible wet noodles about it. I don't understand. If somebody says something offensive to me, I'll get offensive right back. And I'll most likely say something 10x worse. I mean, somebody popped off at me the other day and I told him someone should've handed his mother a knitting needle...granted, it was in a chat room, but I'd like to think I would've been that quick-witted if it had happened in person. And lord help somebody if they get in my face with some sh$#(@!t. I just don't understand why I seem to be the only person who gets mad as hell. What is wrong with people?? Somebody help me understand this...

All I can say is think big picture. Let **** slide. If you get that angry, well then, they win.

that is true b/c they try to intimidate you. they love to see you angry.

That is the WRONG thing to do!

It's totally natural to feel that way, because I am the same way. I don't like to take ANYTHING from anyone. I get so mad sometimes I feel like I could explode.

But it isn't worth it...anger isn't. Retaliation isn't. Sore words back and forth isn't. It's always better to let it die. Whomever was that evil to start with only wants reaction...and nothing is worse than giving evil people what they want.

I try to be a bit cautious. In the big picture, if I'm gonna forget this person soon, I try not to get too mad

I spent most of my late teens and early twenties being angry. I find that NOT getting angry back at someone diffuses most situations. It's so much nicer being calm.

IMO, the big secret to a happy life, is learning to temper our own emotions and reactions.
Others don't make us angry... we allow ourselves to get angry.
Others don't make us jealous... we allow ourselves to get jealous. And so on.

I react poorly to things more often than I'd like, but I am striving to decrease the frequency with which that happens. Other people don't deserve the power to influence my moods and outlook.

tommer 12-12-2005 02:32 AM

you shouldn't feel alone, this world is full of people who react violently once they get pissed off about stuff.

in fact, there are SO many of those, that there aren't enough prisons to have them all locked and separated from civilized society, nor the funds to educate them better.
i say go ahead and act on your instincts.

SO well said!

I think it's something you learn over time, and then have to work towards.

Not the only one. I get very angry when people act like idiots. One example is when you're walking on the sidewalk, on the right side, and a few people are walking toward you but they don't give way so you can pass. You have to jump out of the way. I always say something when this happens though I don't know if anyone hears me. I'm not all that confrontational in that situation. However, there are others where I can be. I agree that there is too much complacence among bad behavior.

I always try to act, not RE-act. I certainly never let some strangers gain control over my moods and actions!
Agression is just such a waste of energy, emotionally, physically, psychically, and only breeds more agression in response.

Even when "being victimized" I still try to remain calm and let rationality rule me. In the end, it gets me heard and understood far better than lashing out ever does.

Just wanted to add that Tommer sadly hit the nail on the head here.

You really aren't in such good company, acting out, Markolas.
