Mick Fleetwood appriciation thread

A post I just made in the pre-Rumours section got me thinking, I know what I'm about to say will be obvious to some of you, but I really need to say it. As a Fleetwood Mac fan for almost 29 years, I have grown to love this band for it's diverse history more than anything else. And to me at least, there is one man who is responsible for keeping Fleetwood Mac together through thick and thin, lineup after lineup, and that man is Mick Fleetwood. I dont care how much money he's made, or how much went up his nose back in the day, at the core of it all is his love for this band, and his refusal to let it die. I did not get a chance to see Fleetwood Mac live until the Dance tour becuse I was either too young, didnt have the money, or whatever, and I had a chance to personally thank him and share my thoughts that I'm sharing here with him when I had the chance to meet him in 2003. He seemed genuinely touched that someone would thank him in this manner, and for me, there was no other choice. This band has been there for me through thick and thin, my rock really when things were going to **** at any point in my life, and i know that if it werent for Mick, I probably would have never gotten the chance to ever see Fleetwood Mac live. I'm sure there are people out there that know more than I do about this band and it's various members or whatever, but this is a very personal thing for me that I just needed to express. Thank you Mick for ever letting this band die. For all of your personal strifes and headaches Fleetwood mac has caused you, you never lost sight of what was most important to you, this great band. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Beautiful, and so true!

And don't forget 2004 also. What you said was great and I enjoyed smelling your hand which smelled like Mick. :D He's got style.

I don't care whether he or anybody else kept Fleetwood Mac together. Mick is a fantastic drummer whose sound I get especially excited about. So it's for that I love Mick. I have always loved Mick.

As far as I'm concerned, at the core of it all is Mick's drum sound & style. He's a perfect drummer for my aesthetic needs.

Major bummer.

Good post, Dave!

I agree in general, but being a nit-pick for details...

...sure, Mick has kept Fleetwood Mac together, but he's also responsible for its near demise, too.

The Mystery To Me tour, Jenny Fleetwood/Bob Weston affair. When he flipped out & hid out in Africa setting up the "fake Mac" debacle, which, although we think of now in barely passing (thanks to BOB WELCH), nearly was the demise of the band altogether. If they hadn't won the subsequent litigation (which, considering the contracts that had been signed, was a miracle), The band, as we know it, would've ceased to exist.

I've met Mick and I love him.
The label on his bottles of wine however, is a different story.
Really cheeeeeeeeesey.

I've always been a big fan of Mick's as well. For his talent AND for keeping Fleetwood Mac and all it's incarnations going.

At the last SYW show I went to, I had front row and couldn't wipe the stupid smile off my face the whole time. When Mick came out from behind the kit, he took a double take at me (seriously, my plastered smile may have looked deranged). He winked and waved to me- I was thrilled.

Well said, David. Mick is awesome. I met him twice this year and both times he was so nice to me. :)

jbrownsjr 12-09-2005 01:48 PM

what a great thread... (thanks DavidMn)

Mick has done some of the best and worst drumming I've ever heard.

Gailh 12-09-2005 01:56 PM

He is a great drummer and without a doubt without him FM would have broken up years ago.

He's made some bad judgement calls along the way but then who hasn't?

Nobody's perfect (except Christine  )

That litigation ended in 1978 right?
