Geddy Lee's opinion of Tusk's price tag

http://knac.com/article.asp?ArticleID=4078

The second disc includes interviews and rarities that are about as cool as the show itself. The conversations with the band are amazing as they truly display the various faces and styles of Rush (literally) as time has passed. The first documented interview on the disc simply spotlights a young Geddy Lee responding to queries next to a makeshift loading ramp at Ivor Wynne Stadium in 1979. The funniest portion of the dialogue comes when Geddy is asked about the reported 1.1 million that Fleetwood Mac had recently spent in the recording studio. Lee’s response?

“You’d have to be pretty bad to spend that much money.”

Not an unfair assumption.

It's even more ridiculous considering how "rough" many of the songs on Tusk sound. And that's not a complaint, I love the production on Tusk, but half the album sounds like it ought to have cost no more than a few thousand bucks to put together.

The rest is for "sundries". And you know that band needed a lot of sundries. Sundries up the wazoo, is what they needed. Literally.

You know one of the first concerts I ever went to was Rush. All I remember is giant inflatable bunny rabbits.

I've often wondered who Geddy Lee is. Well, not so much often, as just this once right now when I read his name. Off to google.
On another note, that's very cool you saw Rush. I've heard it's the best concert evah. :p

Edit - Oh, I see. He's the incredible Rush bass player.

Just what does Geddy mean by bad? Music or excesses?:shrug: I like 80s Rush music better then their 70s music.

I think the joke is that the band must be spending all of that money on studio wizardry to make their music sound good. Also, since you rent out studios for a certain length of time, and the huge price tag implies that they took a hell of a long time to record the album, that the band must not be very good if it takes them so long to get their music to sound right.

Not really Rush just put out a dvd "Rush in Rio" and it went Triple Platinum. They just released their 30th anniversary tour... not sure how it's done.

I have one problem with Rush... Much like FM they play the same set list night in and night out.... And never the songs I want...

But they are fantantic musicians... I believe they are in the studio as we speak(type):D

I may be mistaken... but I thought I heard/read somewhere that "Tusk" was one of the first albums ever fully recorded with digital equipment. It was either "Tusk" or Peter Gabriel's "Security." Oy, the mind is the first to go with old age. :rolleyes: And this was back in the days when the Atari video game system packed a whopping 164 bytes of memory!

"Sundries"...that sound like: ||: tap-tap-tap-tap, scrape, snort, sniff :||

And, unless those reports about Stevie & the roadie are true, I DON'T think "the wazoo" is where they went. :laugh:
