The Boxcar Children

I loved these books. The first one with all the kids living in a boxcar was the best. I loved the idea of kids taking care of themselves, buying bread and milk to feed themselves, and visiting the city dump for household items. Gertrude Chandler Warner wrote nineteen of these books from 1942 to 1976. Then in 1991, after her death, they started releasing new stories by uncredited authors. I read some of these also. But I didn't know they were still making them! There are 105 of them now.

I remember those. Although I'm guessing I was reading the uncredited author ones. Meh...I only got through half of one once anyways. I was big into Nancy Drew and The Babysitter's Club for a while though.

My first grade class read some of the Boxcar Children books; I don't remember them, though. I loved Nancy Drew and The Babysitters' Club too. :)

I read a Nancy Drew this summer after years and it was really good. It was kind of embarassing to go to the library and be like "Where are you Nancy Drews?"

Whatever. Who wants to grow up?

I remember a book I read back in the day called Tales Of A Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume. That was one of my favorites growing up.

I tried to read 'Are You There God? It's Me Margaret' once but I was too young to appreciate it. Now I can't find it :(

You can't find it? It's still in every bookstore...

I work part-time in a bookstore and everytime I get stuck picking up the kids' section I always end up stopping and reading stuff I have fond memories of. Last week I reread some of the Beverly Cleary Ramona books and Harriet the Spy.

Well it's not like I'm looking THAT hard. It's just not in the library anymore.

I love the Ramona books. Every once in a while I'll still read Ramona The Pest or Ramona Quimby, Age 8.
