After Hurricane Katrina, she put the demo of her song Touched by an Angel on the Inte

Huh? Did I miss this?

Apparently we all did because nobody seems to know anything about it.

My thoughts exactly...something along the lines of....huh?!

It wasn't a direct quote from Stevie though... it was stated by Sharon Krum in the body of the article. So you'd think there would be some fact-checking involved.

But where did the writer get that whole idea in the first place?

Who knows? Doesn't necessarily have to be Stevie though... could be her publicist, the internet, another article, and so forth.

How many times have supposedly legitimate news sources, articles and rock history books referred to Stevie and Lindsey as "former husband and wife"? They certainly don't get that little "factoid" from the artists.

Making that sort of reference is quite different from claiming Nicks put her demo of a song up on the internet to generate funds for victims of a hurricane.

I think stating in a factual setting that two people were married, when they were in fact not, is a pretty big and inexcusable boner for a journalist to make. It's something that is easily verified, and yet journalists still make the mistake.
Hell, plenty of them still can't get Lindsey's name spelled correctly, and all you have to do is a two-second Google search to fix that one.

So who knows where Ms. Krum got that information, but we can't automatically assume it came from Stevie's mouth, when it was not directly quoted as such.

I think that making a reference in passing of two ex-lovers being married is quite a minor mistake when it's compared to falsely stating that Stevie Nicks put up a demo for one of her songs on the internet in order to generate proceeds for the victims of Hurrican Katrina. But that's just me. The "married mistake" is something any lame journalist who can't do their job thoroughly could make, whereas it's entirely mysterious how they came up with that other whopper.

And I never once stated or assumed that it came from the mouth of Nicks. I asked where the writer came up with that assertion in regards to "Touched By An Angel." Though we also can't assume that it didn't come from Nicks and the writer somehow interpreted it in the wrong way.

In my opinion, there are no "minor mistakes" when a publication incorrectly reports something as a fact. If something is false, it is false. Period.
My journalism teacher was a battle-axe where fact-checking was concerned, and that stuck with me.

And I never once stated that you had claimed it came from Stevie's mouth. But when you questioned how the writer could have come up with that notion in the first place, I answered that it could easily have been from any number of sources... not necessarily Stevie, as the ladies who had posted before my first reply seemed to have assumed.

That's you. This isn't Time Magazine reporting on the use of Curve Ball as a source for weapons of mass destruction being manufactured in Iraq. I find a silly reference like that to be sloppy but more forgivable than making up a whole story about aiding the victims of Hurricane Katrina and passing it off as fact. Especially since Stevie has made several public statements about her and Lindsey being as good as "married."

Just as it could have easily been Stevie. The fact is we don't know, but it surely came from the Stevie camp.

Insert Beavis and Butthead laugh.

Sounds like classic Stevie cluelessness to me. My theory ? She thought of doing this, told Karen, called her manager, and it was too complicated to do it, so no one told her for fear of invoking her wrath. I suspect the world of things Stevie imagined happening, and is convinced actually happened dwarves our current reality.

Ah, but that's not entirely "made up" either... we all know from other articles and her Habitat For Humanity participation, that Stevie did do something to raise money and awareness for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. What's in question, is whether or not she also donated proceeds from internet sales to the cause.

By your own criteria, if something's "as good as" true, it's only a minor error. ;)
