Escape From Berlin

Who else adores this song?? I havn't had many things go my way recently and this song so totally represents where I am at the moment. These lyrics especially make me quite emotional, its like they are directed straight at me:

"But I covered my tears...Silent all day. It's out of my hands here...In my devastation...I wanted so to change...In my way...disaster was the only thing that I could depend on..."

I personally think that this is one of Stevie's best songs lyrically, no OTT mysticism

I love this song SO, SO, SO much!
Just pretend this space -----> [ ] contains a 10,000 page
manifesto about it, and that should begin to give you the
idea.

And by the way, Stevie wrote and arranged this ENTIRE song all
by herself (that's on inherownwords.com , or at least floating around
somewhere) so she definitely can write an entire, reasonably complex
song all by herself, from beginning to final product.

She asked Rupert Hines to accept it as is without changing it, and
I think maybe the general idea is he thought to himself "OH MY G.
SHE'S A F'g *GENIUS*!
" and then said something like, "SURE babe,
I can do that just to humor you! . . ."

Anyway, I love it and I think it's literally genius, and to those who understand
where she went and what she did -
yeah, I agree with you.

I love this song .It's one of the tracks on TOSOTM where the Euro-pop production of Ruperts Hines actually enhances the song and it is the song she played for him on the piano when she was shopping for a producer. It kind of reminds me of a similar themed European hit Twist in my Sobriety by Tanita Tikarim the year before. There seems to be a small sub cult of people who really love this song.I think it along with TISL the title track, are 2 of best songs she has penned in the last 20 years.

Rupert Hines didn't touch this one. This is all Stevie. I think there's some sort of quote about that on inherownwords.com or
someplace, about how what she gave him was the final product and he accepted it "as is."

The arrangement may be hers but he is listed in the liner notes as the producer if she had just produced it herself then she alone would be listed as the sole producer just like my signature song on TISL.I remember her saying she played it for him when she was looking for a producer for TOSOTM after those botched Kenny G. songs and asked if he could make something beautiful out of it .Can someone find this interview?

I think it's spectacular. "Here it is, in little pieces..."

JazmenFlowers 11-22-2005 10:20 AM

me loves it.

catinthedark 11-22-2005 11:02 AM

I love it, too. So devastatingly sad. With just a little tiny bit of hope. (Stevie is really good at capturing that dichotomy, isn't she? - Space Needle is another example). Both of my favourite sets of lines have already been mentioned... "So here it is... in little pieces" and "In my devastation...I wanted so to change...In my way...disaster was the only thing that I could depend on..."

Sometimes Stevie just manages to capture the feelings you think only you have ever experienced.

I agree that this is a fantastic song. It is one of my favorites besides Rooms on Fire and Whole Lotta Trouble on the OSOTM CD. Whenever I am having a bad day I put this song and I feel better. It is depressing but there is some hope in it. Did she ever sing this song live? I dont remember ever hearing anything about it.

If you guys actually believe that Stevie Nicks arranged the instrumentation on the album track, you're on more drugs than she was at the time.
