Hit and run
I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice.
Earlier tonight my mother and I were in a parking lot, when some a-hole pulled out of a spot and slammed into the back of us. We weren't going fast at all; he simply didn't look where he was going. The back taillight and side is smashed. He actually drove off laughing before we could talk to him. Anyway, I got his license plate number and a complete description of the car. Is there anything we can do with that? P.S. people in the city are rude bastards. The end. |
I'm sorry, Kimberly. What an ass. I would call the police and give them the information and take it from there.

You can totally call the police and I agree, take a picture of the damage.

Yes, I agree...call the police! Also, start keeping a neckbrace in your glove compartment. That way, if this happens again, you can slap it on, open up the door, and just roll out onto the street and writhe around. That'll scare the sh*t out of them!

That witness just might be the key to make everything work out. Since your mom was in the car with you (and she is also family), she won't be considered a neutral party and any statement she makes will not be considered disinterested. Only a neutral testimony will make the other guy's insurance company (if he has one) accept liability. Otherwise, if he denies causing the accident, it's just your word against his. So keep that woman's address/phone number and give it to your insurance company so that they can contact her. Of course since I don't live in the US, things might be a bit different. |

I work part-time at a Starbucks and this exact thing happened to someone I work with in our store parking lot last week. Unfortunately, it was an out-of-state (Ohio) tag so the cop claimed it was going to take much longer to track the vehicle down. I would suggest just definitely staying on the police and keep checking to see what they found out... and make sure to record who you talked to at the department, what day and what time you talked to them. Good luck.
