DeLAY ASKS TO SEE TEXAS CONVICT’S ESCAPE PLAN Wants Detailed Instructions, Diagram One day after a death row convict who escaped from a high-security Texas prison was captured in Louisiana, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) asked today to see the fugitive’s escape plan “in as much detail as possible.”

The stunning escape of the prisoner, Charles Victor Thompson, is “a matter of concern to me,” said Mr. DeLay, who is facing criminal charges in Texas.

“I think the American people have a right to know,” Rep. DeLay told reporters. “If a convict somehow sprung himself from a Texas prison, it is important that we know exactly how he did it, and whether it would be possible for someone to do it again.”

Rep. DeLay said that he would ask Mr. Thompson to provide detailed instructions and possibly a diagram to show exactly how it would be possible to escape from a high-security Texas prison.

Additionally, the Texas congressman said, if the convict’s escape was facilitated by a person or persons working inside the prison itself, “I would like the names and telephone numbers of all of those people who assisted him.”

But Mr. DeLay’s request was rebuffed later in the day when Mr. Thompson, en route from Louisiana to Texas, told reporters, “Under no circumstances would I provide Tom DeLay with my escape plan.”

“This is exactly why I didn’t put my escape plan into writing,” the escaped convict said. “I didn’t want it to fall into the wrong hands.”

Elsewhere, actors Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards have reconciled, according to a report published today in Who Cares magazine.
