Watch out for some fabulously dressed homeless people - care of Mariah Carey. The prancing popstress took a break from her European tour promoting her multiplatinum disc "The Emancipation of Mimi" to perform in Russia at the birthday party of an anonymous gazillionaire kleptocrat. The tycoon gave her dozens of unwanted fur coats in addition to a seven-figure fee. She doesn't wear fur, so she gave the pelts to PETA to distribute to the homeless, sources say. Here's hoping that animal-rights activists don't add to the homeless fur-wearers' woes by beating them up for donning the stoles.

Good for her. I know she gets a bad rap by pretty much everyone, but I don't share such a disdain for her.

Me either! I am a HUGE Mariah fan! I have stood 5 feet away from her, and I nearly passed out...

I will have to get the reissue of her album along with Madonna's new one Nov. 15.

I love Mariah, no matter what the bitches say. I think she's an awesome songwriter and a great singer (tho I don't buy into all that 7 octave BS; I mean it's just whistle voice). And I'm glad she's donated these coats.

And her new song "Don't Forget About Us" is almost as good as We Belong Together...love it.

I love the new song as well...very good! And I think she has a five octave voice...not 7.

I have seen her in concert. In Orlando, FL in August of 2003...and it was simply amazing! She entered through the side of the arena and was about 4 or 5 feet away from me... :D

yeah, I'm not sure what the actual octave range is, but you know how most articles in print swear by 7 - nonetheless, most of the range she has is whistle voice, which, to me, shouldn't count...in full voice her range is probably a 3

*disclaimer: I'm not a vocal expert, so don't quote me on any of this, just guessing from my experience

I have actually read a few articles discussing Mariah's vocal range and I think that the deciding one was 5. Mariah is one of the only singers that I know of who can switch from her chest to head voice without much trouble or thought...it's just natural.

I'm right there with you... why PETA???

Mariah is annoying because she was once so classy and now has giant implants and usually looks trashy. Just my opinion. I don't deny her talent though and I like some of her songs.

PETA takes the furs and gives them to the homeless.

Well, that's a good thing of course, but I just find it odd that they would do that, especially since its real fur.

She is annoying for many reasons. I think when she is older she might be interesting. A more limited range might actually inspire her to go beyond technique and ability into character and emotion. She's another technician whose vocals leave me cold and uninterested. Although I do get a kick out of some of her silly songs. I will be happy when she completely gets off the vocal acrobat train. I had to work with her once and talk about entourage and attitude. Blech. Clear the house for rehearsal so everyone won't see my big ass in an unfinished dress type of silliness. Not impressed.

I don't. The poor animals have already been tortured and skinned, why throw them out when they can be utilized by the people who need warm apparel more than anyone else?

Fair enough. I can agree with that.:)
