*Anne Rice*

Hey everybody!
I know there has to be an Anne Rice fanatic lurking on this board somewhere..
I want to start reading her novels... but where on earth do I begin?
The Vampire Chronicles?

Thanks!

I want to buy her new book and may do so over Thanksgiving when I am at home visiting my parents. She was on PBS in an interview the other night talking about the book and seemed interesting to me as it is an "autobiography" of Christ's life until like age eight.

Describe the house in detail! Do her descriptions in the book match the house? Damn you are lucky. I have always wanted to go back to NO to see the garden district. Could not get over there during Mardis Gras. Too much else going on. Now I simply have to return, it is my duty as an American to pass my tourist dollars on to the city. ;)

The structure of the house is almost exactly as she decribes it. The double parlor, the staircase, the pool, etc. Interestingly, many of the mansions in the Garden District are built with similar floor plans. That house though is very very special. She recently sold it I believe. I think she should have made it into a museam.

But I love The Vampire Armand the best out of all the vampire novels. Didn't like Pandora AT ALL. I really really want her new book and I'd love to see Lestat on Broadway next year!!!

Yeah, start with Interview With The Vampire. It's a good introduction to her storyline and style of writing. I think it first published back in 1976. It took her 12 years to write the next one and it shows in the writing.

I posted a link to a great new interview with her in the current "What are you reading..." thread. She discusses her husband's death, her re-found faith, and the new life of Christ book.

I started with Interview with the Vampire, got all caught up on that series, then started the Witching Hour series, got all caught up on that one, by which time I was 2 book behind on vampires, read them, then was behind on the witches ... I finally just had to give up. I couldn't keep my demons separated from my vampires.

So, my suggestion is to pick a series and follow it to completion, then start the other one. Or pick one of the standalone books - I liked the one about the castrati (Violin?) - if you just want a sense of her style without making a commitment. Because, for me, once I'd read Interview, I had to know the rest of the story - there was just no choice in the matter.

Thank you everyone! I'm finishing up Bloody Memory by Greg Iles....and then I'm going to start The Witching Hour... it seems to have the most votes.

Thanks again!

i prefer the Vampire Chronicles over the Mayfairs, but that's me. and my 'neck' thing....

i was OBSESSED with anne rice all through middle/high school. like to the max. Merrick is my favorite, i love the dark stuff. i wept for days after i finished Armand. Blood & Gold is pretty awesome too.

and jesus fascinates me almost as much as vampires, so her new book makes me squee.

i almost double-majored in religious studies, but i was uninterested in studying judaism and islam, which were required for the degree. so instead, i filled my time with wonderful classes like Jesus through the Centuries and Medieval Christianity. which is only bizarre because i'm an atheist. whatever.

My mom loves reading her stuff.

I'm fascinated by religion, too, and I'm also an atheist. It is pretty bizarre.

The review in the new Entertainment Weekly is vicious. What possessed her to write a book from "Christ's" point of view at the age of seven? Ridiculous.
