Party dishes?

I know this is a lame thread, but . . . My parents are having a big party Saturday and everyone is supposed to bring a food dish. I don't cook a whole lot, but I'd like to take something a little more exciting than mac & cheese.

Does anyone have recommendations for impressive, but simple, party dishes?

Cheese fondue is an easy one, & everybody loves fondue!

Make sure there's plenty of booze in your fondue, & then cut squares of crusty french bread.

Another easy but popular party fave is the meatballs in the grape & mustard sweet & sour sauce.

Cut strawberries, put sugar all on them, cure them in the fridge overnight. Delish.

If you have kind of an idea of what you want to make, go to this website: www.recipesource.com

It groups 'ethnic recipes by region' and 'recipe by type of dish.'

I invented Crabmeat pinwheels. If you've had pinwheels(flour tortillas, with ham, cream cheese, diced green onions, diced green chillies{the kind in a can-Ortega}, sliced black olives, and some spices- spread onto the tortilla, roll, Saran wrap overnight, then cut into 1/2" slices the next morning(or a few hours later). I dumped the ham for imitation crab meat, and it's a huge hit!:woohoo:
