Terrific anti-war song

One of my fave songs of all time. :)

Zor And Zam by The Monkees

(written by: Bill and John Chadwick)

The king of Zor, he called for war
And the king of Zam, he answered.
They fashioned their weapons one upon one
Ton upon ton, they called for war at the rise of the sun.

Out went the call to one and to all
That echoed and rolled like the thunder.
Trumpets and drums, roar upon roar
More upon more.
Rolling the call of "Come now to war."

Throughout the night they fashioned their might
With right on the side of the mighty.
They puzzled their minds plan upon plan
Man upon man
And at dying of dawn the great war began.

They met on the battlefield banner in hand,
And they looked out across the vacant land
And they counted the missing, one upon one,
None upon none.
The war it was over before it begun.

Two little kings playing a game,
They gave a war and nobody came.
And nobody came.
And nobody came.
And nobody came.
And nobody came.

Gotta question

Do you think if women ruled the world, there would be war?

Yes, but it would be MUCH bitchier.

Of course, there'd just be a lot more hair-pulling involved.

Can you imagine an all-female army? Stick 'em all in a barracks together for a few months, let their cycles all line up, and then release them on some unsuspecting enemy force just as cramps are in full-force? That war'd be over in about two seconds.

Plenty of women have ruled various parts of the world, and they've certain launched their share of wars.

War Of Man

War Of Man
~Neil Young

The little creatures run in from the cold
Back to the nest just like the days of old
There in the safety of a mother's arms
The warmth of ages, far away from harm again.

Ears ringin' from the battle fire
The tired warrior aims a little higher
The black falcon or the little sparrow
The healing light or the flash of the barrel.

No one wins
It's a war of man,
No one wins
It's a war of man.

Silver mane flyin' in the wind
Down through the planets on the run again
No one knows where they're runnin' to
But every kind is comin' two by two.

Out on the delta where the hoofbeats pound
The daddy's runnin' on the frozen ground
Can't smell the poison as it follows him
Can't see the gas and machines, it's a war of man.

No one wins
It's a war of man,
No one wins
It's a war of man.

The windows open and the little girl dreams
The sky's her playground as she mounts her steed
Across the heavens to the other side
On wings of magic does the little girl ride.

The baby creatures run in from the cold
Back to the nest just like the days of old
There in the safety of a mother's arms
The warmth of ages, far away from harm again.

No one wins
It's a war of man,
No one wins
It's a war of man,
No one wins.

The same song I always...

choose as my anti-war song:

Disposable Heroes-Metallica from the Master of Puppets album 1986

Bodies fill the fields I see, hungry heroes end
No one to play soldier now, no one to pretend
Running blind through killing fields, bred to kill them all
Victim of what said should be
A servant `til I fall

Soldier boy, made of clay
Now an empty shell
Twenty one, only son
But he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
Just do as we say
Finished here, Greeting Death
He's yours to take away

Back to the front
You will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
You will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
You coward
You servant
You blindman

Barking of machinegun fire, does nothing to me now
Sounding of the clock that ticks, get used to it somehow
More a man, more stripes you bare, glory seeker trends
Bodies fill the fields I see
The slaughter never ends

Soldier boy, made of clay
Now an empty shell
But he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
Just do as we say
Finished here, Greeting Death
He's yours to take away

Back to the front
You will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
You will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
You coward
You servant
You blindman

Why, Am I dying?
Kill, have no fear
Lie, live off lying
Hell, Hell is here

I was born for dying

Life planned out before my birth, nothing could I say
Had no chance to see myself, moulded day by day
Looking back I realise, nothing have I done
Left to die with only friend
Alone I clench my gun

Soldier boy, made of clay
Now an empty shell
Twenty one, only son
But he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
Just do as we say
Finished here, Greeting Death
He's yours to take away

Back to the front
You will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
You will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
You coward
You servant
You blindman

Back to the front

I agree, but then, the question itself is a little degrading to men, so I figured I'd respond in kind.

It's not really a matter of "if". The Falklands was Thatcher's ticket to victory. Megawati ruled the world's largest Muslim nation (if passivity can be considered ruling), I'd say she has blood on her hands.
Maggie's the first example I thought of, too. And Victoria and Elizabeth presided over their share of wars back when British monarchs were just figureheads. And I think Catherine the Great might have been in charge when stuff was going down in the Crimea, but I can't remember exactly.
