Old Stuff Newly Discovered

I just got Thin Lizzy's greatest hits and I can't believe how much I love this c.d. I don't usually buy greatest hits compiliations, much less go ga-ga for them, but this album is so f*cking great! I listen to it almost every day. Those harmonizing guitars and that bass! Whisky in The Jar is my favorite so far. The only thing I was ever familiar with was "The Boys Are Back in Town" and while that is a good song, that is my LEAST favorite on this album.

All that said, has anyone else "discovered" some good music lately that is new to your ears? Anyone else go ga-ga lately?

I suggest...

you pick up the Thin Lizzy live album "Live and Dangeorus", The best pure live album ever.

I hate how in this country Lizzy is only known for "Boys..." and not great tracks such as "Cold Sweat", "Suicide", "Angel of Death" and the classic "Black Rose".

The greatest hits disc ya bought wouldnt happen to be the "Dedication:The Very Best of Thin Lizzy" would it? There is supposed to be an "Essential Thin Lizzy" worldwide release here sometime in the near future that will be the Lizzy comp to purchase. Should contain alot of Gary Moore & John Sykes era guitar tracks.

Only new things as of late that caught my attention are the Lacuna Coil 1999 debut "in a Reverie" (Great Italian metal...Plus Cristina Scabbia is sexy as hell!) and the newest release from Cross Canadian Ragweed "Garage" with the cool track "Dimebag".

Will be purchasing some newer stuff I have yet to ever hear from either independent metal label http://www.centurymedia.com or from the great Euro-Metal online shop http://www.cdinzane.com

I did receive several free promo discs when I ordered from http://www.centurymedia.com and I am interested in purchasing discs by Arch Enemy, Soilwork, Hammerfall, Candlemass, All Shall Perish, Sonata Arctica & Communic in part to what I heard on the promos.

I keep meaning to buy a Thin Lizzy album, but they always end up on the lower half of my mental "artists to buy" list and I never get around to it. One of these days...

Old stuff I just discovered, though... It seems like most of the CDs I've bought recently have been relatively new. I did pick up a Sam Cooke retrospective not too long ago that is absolutely wonderful. The man had so many wonderful songs that were ingrained into my consciousness, I just never knew it was he who had recorded them. Beyond that handful of hits, though, there are many other songs that I had never heard before, including some beautiful gospel numbers. I mean, the man had the voice of King Midas.

I also finally picked up Jay-Z's Blueprint album a while back, as well, and that's some really wonderful productions on it, many of them courtesy of Mr. West, I believe.

Not so "newly discovered" by me...but I can't get over their great stuff.

Jellyfish.

Bellybutton and Spilt Milk (my fave) are great (and only) albums. And if you can ever find the boxset Fan Club, you will not be disappointed. I saw the boxset going for $300. bucks!! Wow. Glad I got it a few years ago.

you live, around here you rarely (If ever) hear "Jailbreak" on the radio...Whereas "Boys..." is played almost daily.

Like to see the stations play "Sun Goes Down" or "Waiting for An Alibi" instead.

Speaking of older music, I just heard Calling Dr.Love by Kiss on the radio the other day. It reminded me of that trip I took with my friend to Moorehead Minnesota about 10 years ago and me and him were hanging out in his brother's trailer there and they were all smoking pot and listening to this song. Bizarre but fun.

Thanks for the headsup Brian, I bought "Live and Dangerous" this weekend! I've only listened to a few of the tracks but so far I LOVE it! The greatest hits comp I have is "Dedication" it's fantastic, but I'm really looking forward to the new g.h. release! I can't get enough of this band. I just can't believe I haven't run across them till now. Weird.

Y'all have convinced me to dig out "Live and Dangerous" again, since I've not listened to it lately at all. Love me some Thin Lizzy! :)

Favourite song is Cold Sweat or Rosalie....just cant decide between them.

I haven't listened to music for more than a week because of headaches from a sinus infection (don't worry about feeling sorry for me, I can take care of that myself!) but today I'm listening to an album by Portishead & Kraftwerk- Kraftwelt combined called Electric Dimension. It's great!

Rosalie is greatness...the live version on Live and Dangerous is better than the recorded version (which is still really good of course). Whisky in The Jar just gets me everytime, I LOVE that song! "Fighting My Way Back" is also a favorite as is "The Rocker."

Jellyfish is okay... what I really love is Andy Sturmer's work with Puffy AmiYumi. He's produced their most recent record, a soundtrack to the Cartoon Network show- even had them do a cover of "Joining a Fanclub." I LOVE them. Perfect pop songs.
