Remember that song by an Indian woman?

Around 1998, I remember there being a pop hit by some Indian singer. I think it was her only crossover hit. It was played pretty often on the radio, and had an appropriate exotic sound. I don't remember loving it particularly, but I just want to know what it was.

Ofra Haza? I think the song name was "Galbi".

vermicious knid 10-18-2005 03:45 PM

No, it was not that. It was not entirely dissimilar from Loreena McKennitt's "The Mummer's Dance" and it was from near the same time. So if you liked that song, maybe you remember it.

Ofra Haza wasn't Indian. She was Israeli.

Was the singer Tanita Tickaram? I'm not sure if she's from India - but her song was similar to the Mummer's Dance.

It took me nearly a whole year, but I finally found out who this damn woman is. I was in Barnes and Noble, and my gaze fell on this CD, and I thought "maybe that's that woman". It was! Her name is Anggun, and she is Indonesian, not Indian. The song I remembered hearing on the radio was "Snow on the Sahara". Here is the video on youtube.

I happen to have that CD, that is a very beautiful song, in fact quite a few of the tracks are very listenable. it was offered as an "editor pick" from my CD club way back when and I took a chance...

I also like "On the Breath of an Angel" very pretty

PS: Ive just seen the video, thanks! I always appreciated her voice, but now I see her, she is very expressive with her hands in the way of polynesians, and it is so beautiful
