Just realized why Stevie cancelled her Big Apple/Big Easy concert performance!
I just realized why Stevie may have cancelled her "From The Big Apple to the Big Easy" concert performance on Sept. 20th 2005. Just recently, The Today Show announced the kick off of the Hurricane Katrina Project (with The Today Show, Warner Bros. Music & Habitat For Humanity), that is taking place this upcoming week. Since Stevie is obviosley an artist under the Warner Bros. label, she is obligated (as well as wanting to do it to help people in need, of coarse :) ) to be apart of this great project. Therefore she cancelled the Big Apple/Big Easy concert performance in NYC on 9/20/05 to plan for this upcoming concert on the Today Show in NYC on the 28th. Since she is now apart of this project, she was probably told by Warner Bros. or whoever else is managing the project to be "mum" (or discreet) about the cancellation of her performance on the 20th, since this event was still in the works. That is also why Taku did not give a real reason on his site for the cancellation of last week's concert. This is, of coarse, just my opinion. What do you guys think?

I don't buy it. How much planning does she need to do for Today Show? Especially there's a 99.99999999999989% chance she would have sang the same two songs at both events

Well, I initially assumed there was some licensing or legal issue regarding the material she was going to perform, and later sales of a DVD, or broadcast of the show. I just guessed it might be her management or record company, because the excuse of not being able to get the band together so soon after a tour didn't seem plausible.
I think Habitat For Humanity is a fantastic and well run charity, so I am really happy she is performing to support them. |

At least that's my understanding of record company legalese. Believe me, I would very much like to blame her untimely backing out of such a worthwhile endeavor on the beaurocrats as well, but I don't think that's the case here, unfortunately. |
I doubt any legalities of using her material would have been a problem...since I dont think there was going to be a DVD, just a payperview concert...So I am in the opinion that the cancellation likely had nothing to do with the Today Show event...however WB being involved in it, is likely how she got asked to do it.

Yeah.
Uhm, Stevie's DAD just DIED. After a long illness. When she was coming off of a tour from which she was absolutely exhausted, emotionally and physically. Shortly after she and her Dad, working together, raised a total of 15 million dollars for the Research Building at the Arizona Heart Institute, which over the long run is going to save countless lives and won't exactly hurt the Phoenix economy. I'm not sure of the exact years, but the following are approximately the years Stevie has been on tour, away from home. For each of those years, she was on tour for most or all of that year. 1975, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1997, 2001, 2003, 2005. She has given countless millions to other charities over the years. Have we forgotten about what she did for the firefighters in both New York and Washington, D.C.? So can we please just give her a break about missing this one show? She's not a robot. And she's 57. She needs to take care of herself and her family. It's as if she's a student who, after 14 years of getting nothing but 100%'s, get's criticized for getting a 90% on one test. Give'er a freaking break, she doesn't have to do this at all. |
Hold on a minute!

at you personally. There were some people in here making very negative remarks about her, though, just weeks after Stevie's Dad had died, and what you may not know is that there were many people coming in to the chat room on Nicksfix and saying awful stuff about her because of it. So there's been a general feeling, in a lot of different places, that people aren't appreciating what Stevie is really going through and what the past few weeks and months have actually been like for her. The general speculation has been, that the reality is that this poor person has been going through hell in the past few weeks and months, and then people jumped all over her for missing the benefit and used words like "selfish" and "egotistical" to describe her. So sorry if I got a little defensive but we need to all remember, maybe, that she's human and needs to look after herself. They were speaking as if she was an inhuman robot who owes them something, at a time when she's been more than generous with her time, money, and heart. So I apologize, but I do maintain that we should all try to remember that Stevie is obviously going through a very rough time in her life right now. From what I've heard, the "happy mood" for the second half of the tour was all an act - someone who, I believe, knows for sure, told me that the last 3 or 4 shows were "living hell" for Stevie and that she wanted to quit, but kept going anyway for the sake of the fans. So I feel that Stevie needs support right now, not discouragement. Don't forget that she maybe sometimes feels things a little more deeply than some people - can you imagine how she would feel about the hurricane victims, and how she felt about the tsunami, even if her Dad hadn't died? I'm not sure but I think maybe this has been the roughest year so far of Stevie's entire life - and that's saying something, no? So let's encourage her, now, when she needs it most. She deserves some gratitude for what she's at least tried to do. :o "Something in my heart died last night Just one more chip off an already broken heart. I think the heart broke long ago That's when I needed you When I needed you most." |

( This isn't directed at anyone in particular - I (and others) are just saying, think about it, please. ) |

But, anyway, thanks for posting the picture. What a good looking family they are! :D |
The Nicksfix chat is the weirdest place to be bashing Stevie. Her people probably moniter that place as closely as any other...considering it is her official site. Whenever the topic of a bootleg song or something comes up over there...wham...the discussion is halted. (at least that is the way it was about a year or so ago)
I do agree that Stevie has been through alot this summer and I have said from the get go of this tour that no one was seeing the real Stevie. Anyone who thinks that the Stevie who performed during the GD tour is the usual solo Stevie is sadly mistaken. Her energy, smiles, general upbeat appearance might have been genuine at times but for the most part, I thought it was an onstage persona. She was trying soo hard to convince us that everything was wonderful. As soon as the spotlight was off, her smile disappeared. Her Dad has been ill for months, even the first Vegas shows last May were difficult for her. Going on tour with her Dad home or in and out of the hospital had to extremely difficult for Stevie. To think she was genuinely happy out there when her Dad was home dying is nuts. She was a trooper this summer but if you think she was really into the tour...you are wrong. Her fans are not the main reason she stayed out there...the obligations to others are. (sponsers, promotors, investors, bandmates, crew) The appearance of her Peter Jennings letter on her site was absolutely Stevie reaching out to people for some comfort and prayers and she pretty much got ripped a new asshole for the way she worded her letter. The loving gesture of the letter was completely overlooked. No one really read between the lines and thought about why she was suddenly sharing this letter and talking about her Dad. The same sort of thing happened with the cancelled gig. She took alot of heat, on the board and elsewhere for pulling out but no one knows the real reason why. Perhaps her reason was valid? It seems that Stevie is constantly either not living up to her fans expectations or getting criticized. I just do not get that. Flame away..... |

She signed up for it and then pulled out once she was faced with the prospect of possibly not being able to do the same old things and songs that she always does. I doubt it had anything to do with her father or any such stuff, or else she wouldn't have agreed to do it in the first place. She didn't like the way it was being organized and being the woman that she is, she didn't want to go out on a limb, so she pulled out. No big conspiracy, no big deal, that's just what happened. Now she's building a house and performing on the Today show. What's the problem? |
