Santana
This is gonna drive me nuts... I just got back from a Santana concert. About halfway thru the show, Carlos said he had a personal message to read. He took some paper out of his pocket and began reading about hurricanes and spirituality. He asked the audience to chant a couple of phrases but he didn't get much of a response, so he threw the paper down on the floor and said something like "there's more, but I won't go into it now..." then continued on playing music. Later on, he picked up the paper and handed it to one of his stage hands.
It was a really cool speech and I wished like heck that he would have gone on with it, now I'm DYING to know what the rest of it was and I can't find anything anywhere on the Internet about it. Maybe he never intended on reading the rest, but it almost seemed like he would have if the audience responded more favorably. Has anyone here seen a Santana show on the current "Embrace Your Inner Light" tour? If so, what was the speech part like...? Was it the same? Okay... thanks to anyone who can help me solve this little "mystery" in my life. Laura |

I think so too. That's too bad. I sooo badly wanted to run down to the stage and ask that stage hand for the written note, but I'm sure he would have thought I was some crazed fan... which I really am not. It's just that I felt so much of what Carols said was right on the money. It was very spiritual, but he put it in street terms and I'm not sure, but maybe that may have offended some people. Folks around here are too sensitive, so they prolly missed the whole meaning of the message. Oh well. Basically what he said was having to do with the belief that the condition of mankind's heart and way we live can influence mother nature and that we've all become too negative and self-obsessed, etc. so mother nature is out of balance, thus the destructive hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes. There is a Native American word "Koyaanisqatsi" meaning life out of balance and I think that might have been what he was alluding to. I really like the very old Santana.. their first album and Abraxas mostly, so haven't followed it much and never really knew anything about the people behind the music. I find it very intriguing and interesting (but somehow not surprising) that Carlos is such a spiritual person. Laura |
