my dating rant....

okay, some of you know i've been bitching about guys & such.... some guy emailed me (he knows someone i know) & wants to talk & stuff, which was fine.... well i never even met this guy & he wants to meet & hang out. i didn't really want to right away cause i had work to do, but he was very persistent... i finally said okay & we decided to meet at the park for an hour. Well, this guy is 4 years older than me, which sorta bothered me, & he isn't, well, a white guy... not that i'm racist or anything, but i'm just not really attracted to other cultures (BTW, he was middle eastern). he was really nice & everything, but we don't have much in common... i need someone younger & still in school, that way we would be kind of on the same level. i emailed him & told him how i felt... he seemed okay with that *sigh* i don't know... did i do the right thing?... i'm actually glad i ended it right away....any advise?

It's sounds to me like you did the right thing. I dated a middle eastern guy for like.....2 weeks. I wasn't all that attracted to him either. Just not my type. But you defiantley did the right thing by telling him how you felt. I went out with a guy I met on the internet, it was horrible but he thought it was great. I felt terrible, but instead of confronting him I jsut stopped answering his emails. I still feel bad about it. :sorry: Keep looking...you will find somebody right!

Thanks Becky! I'm glad i'm not the only one who's felt this way before.... his sense of humor was different than mine too... still a nice person, but not someone i could kid around with in a flirty way, ya know? but now i have another guy in mind ;) .... man, it never ends!

I went dated a different guy for about a month. He was SO nice but...there just wasn't anything there. He just didn't get that. Now my boyfriend now I knew from the first time I met him he was right. No question about it. All the others were OK and we got along alright. But they weren't guys I could sit around and talk to all night like Chris (the current and permenant one). Let me know if the other one works out! Good luck.

i kinda had the same feeling when i saw this guy... not him being the "one", but just a good feeling i guess :) who knows, maybe this will work out... its so great that you have someone that you can connect with... i'll keep you posted!

Middle-Eastern guys can be pretty dang hot!

But, if you didn't feel like you had much in common, and if he didn't fit the kind of social situation you're looking for (ie: a guy right around your age and still in school), then you were right to let him know that now.

You shouldn't judge men just because they are of a different culture. I mean, you never know what could happen...men are men no matter where they are from! ;)

But if you had nothing in common, you had nothing in common...just don't close the door because of age and looks. Sometimes getting to know someone can be the sexiest thing in the world. Most guys I dated were so casual and just friends at first, but later i developed feelings.

4 years isn't a big deal either, older men are more fun anyway!! ;-)

Good luck with it!

i understand what you're saying, but it didn't matter if this guy was black, white, brown, or purple.... i had a weird feeling about this before i even met him cause he was so insistent on meeting me just after IMing eachother within like 15min.... he basically contacted me out of the blue, so that made me a bit uncomfortable....but i'm a nice person & i wanted to be nice. Plus, we didn't have much in common (music, tv, movies, books,) he wasn't into art that much... what would we have talked about? The little things are just as important. American guys (regardless of skin color) are different from foreign guys (yet not any less special),.... I'm only 20 and still haven't completely grown up in some ways, so someone 24/25 is just not what i'm looking for i guess, i'd rather go out w/someone between 19 & 22... my friend who is 23, went out with a guy who was 32.... all he did was use her & then ignore her emails/calls :distress: If i were 30, & a guy was 35-40, it would be different....i dunno, maybe i'm wrong & maybe i'm foolish, but i always go with my first instincts. Thanks for your insight though :)

Except Indian men who have arranged marriages pending but won't tell you. There is so much social/family pressure to do that they will go along with it even if they don't want to. Although I'm not sure India is technically middle eastern. I love Indian guys though, they are so nice, that culture is just so polite and courteous.

That's a very good point about meeting a stranger in a park.
