OMG!!! Starbucks iced drinks have 500 calories in them!!!

No wonder my ass has gotten so big! Am I the only one who didn't realize these drinks had so much fat in them? That really kind of makes me sick that I drank all of those because getting a whooper or Big Mac would have been a healthier choice!

I used to drink these as a snack... I just found this out a few weeks ago that they are loaded in calories and I have drank them a few times since, but only as a replacement for a whole meal.

I usually would get a Venti White Mocha with fat free milk and no whip cream, but I went on the Starbucks website and even that has more calories then a slab of ribs...

Is this sickening or what?

Bless your heart - what did you think was in them or any other fast food. For future reference, ask for a nutritional chart or go to the company's site online before consuming.

Chipotle burritos have something like 1500 calories in 'em. :wavey:

DrummerDeanna 08-30-2005 04:26 PM

Umm...Duh!!!

Dude if you're not getting the drinks with fat free milk then yikes..Milk alone is full of fat and calories...oh I just read that you DO get the fat free one...lol

Well the whipped cream -they make it from scratch - with heavy cream and syrup -

I used to work at a Starbucks - so yep - well aware of all the calories and such in their drinks

I don't know... I just figured there was so much ice in them that they couldn't be that bad. I knew they weren't healthy, but to have over 500 calories is insane!

Christopher, go check out www.dwlz.com. It's a great resource for people on Weight Watchers because it breaks down fast food into points, but it shows the fat/calories/dietary fiber for almost any chain you can think of.

Thanks! I just found out that something that I used to order has 12 points in it. That is bad right? I've never done weight watchers but that sounds like a lot of points to me...

One thing that confuses me is, how can all these celebs that are thinner then a rail (Mary Kate Olsen, Jessica Simpson, etc.) drink these all the time? I don't think I have ever seen a picture of Lindsey Lohan without a frappacino in hand...

That's why they have nutritional information pamphlets. :D

That's all they eat. ...
I generally try to stay away from most beverages except water, tea, tomatoe juice and diet soda (bad) because most people can rack up tons of extra sugar and calories a day by drinking juices, or coffees, or snapple, or whatever. I like those ice things a lot from Starbucks, though, so I'll have one occasionally before class. Occasionally...

Well it's a little too late now. At least I found out so that I can nip this in it's calorie filled bud.

The average point allowance per day is 20-24 depending on how much you weigh, plus 30 extra to use throughout the week. 12 is a lot depending on what it is.

As for the thin celebrities- when they're doing rails of coke like it's candy and ONLY drinking frappucinos, they're fine.

golddustwoman77 08-30-2005 04:59 PM

I always get a Coffee Light frappucino, which is something you could consider. It doesn't have any whip cream, made with skim milk, etc. A lot less calories and fat. It is on the menu.

Uhh ... no. Calories aren't the same thing as fat. If you eat a peach, you take in calories. Just about everything you eat has calories (water has no calories). There's nothing intrinsically wrong with calories -- unless you're ingesting 5,000 calories every day & burning only 2,000. Then you will gain weight. But you can't just blanketly say that 500 calories is unhealthier than eating a Big Mac. When you eat a Big Mac, you are eating animal fats, saturated fats, hydrogenates fats AND plenty of calories. So it depends on what is IN your Starbucks drink in terms of fat, not just a blanket calorie count. Athletes take in a lot of calories because they are so active, but they try to make those calories count for something (for example, the calories found in fish oils or in fruits & vegetables) rather than empty calories (processed sugars like candy) or harmful fats.

Hey, that's a cool site, Hayley!

I myself watch sodium content & like to have handy references, although I'm pretty hip already to the sodium content of most foods in the grocery store (you get very wise after a year of shopping for low-sodium -- you memorize just about all the foods on the store shelves).

Regardless of how much fat it has, I would definitely call a frappaccino "empty calories". More so than a big mac, for sure. At least when you eat a big mac, you are full. In my personal point of view, and my studies, they are about equally evil - Starbucks because of all the sugar calories, big mac because of the animal fat. At least a big mac has some iron and protein..... :p
Those frapaccino things are like a hypoglycemic nightmare. Crash and burn.
