Letters To The Editor - BAM Magazine Aug. 13, 1982

Mad That She's McMissing

This letter is in regard to your overshadowing understated review of Fleetwood Mac's "Mirage" album. First, let me state my bewilderment with a review of a band that includes three prolific & stunning singer/songwriters, which has totally excluded not only one third of the band, but one third of the album.

Christine McVie not only exists, but she is the heartbeat & mainstay of Fleetwood Mac. Not only did you forget to mention her songs (except for a parenthetical aside about "Hold Me"), but by not commenting on them, have missed a major strength of "Mirage." The eloquent subtleness of her bittersweet tunes is never better expressed than in "Wish You Were Here," nor her lust for being in love than in "Only Over You." In disregarding these songs, you have missed the key to the success of the album.

You tell him, Susan!

'Wish You Were Here' and 'Only Over You' are my two favorite CM songs on Mirage...

I love Only Over You. It really doesn't get the credit it deserves. The lyrics are so heartbreaking. After you get past the first "I'm OUTTTTT of my mind", the song is wonderfull. It really shouldn't have started out that way.

Wish You Were Here is my least favorite. Love In Store and Hold Me are far superior than the closing track.

Good for Susan McLean. I especially love "Wish You Were Here", my second favorite song on the album, after "Hold Me". It's a perfect way to end Mirage. I also like "Only Over You". That one has grown on me over the years. If I remember correctly, Christine's songs on Mirage got pretty good reviews when the album came out, I guess just not from BAM Magazine.

It's just plain ignorance in my opinion to leave CM off of a FM review.

Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you got til it's gone....
