The Phoenix contest dissappointment

Ok, I've never started a thread before, but I just had to to let anyone else who might be a leggie in arizona know what a jerk the radio disc jockey Steve Douglas is on 98.7 the peak. For abbout two weeks the radio staiton has been advertising a premium package stevie nicks give away. There was to be a contest. Today, he played SEVERAL people on air that had called in wanting to know more. All were MAJOR fans of LA Nicks. He kept saying that the "contest" was coming up, so like many a stevie fan, I listened all day, for the "q to call". All of the sudden, he is talking to some ditsy girl whos' mom had flown in for the weekend, and she was looking for things to do. She said, "arent you guys giving away tickets to someone ore something?" :distress: He said yes, I'm thinking of a number between one and onethousand" THree? she says....Yes, he says, I'm going to give you A premium Stevie Nicks package worth $1000 dollars! "Oh good thanks" she says. :distress: Now, It's not that I'm just bitter because I myself diddn't win, cause, when I hear that it goes to another really sincere fan, that honestly allways makes me happy too. But seriously!, Why are thiese the kind of people who Allways seem to end up winning?! Anyway, I had called the disc jockey and told him that I didn't think that his "contest" was very fair, and he said to me "prpbaba;;y why you didn't win!, you have bad carma" What a jerk, I will NEVER listen to him again, and wanted to encourage all other arizona leggies to do the same.

That hardly sounds like a 'contest' to me. He should have asked some kind a trivia question. That way someone who actually knows who Stevie is might actually win. That was a really big package to just give away that easily. Make people work for it. Radio is pretty much crap anyway.

I have been listening to KDKB 93.3 and have called a few times asking if they were doing any contests because they had one for Robert Plant. The guy said that they weren't and no radio station probably would because it is a charity event and they wouldn't be able to get the tickets...that is soooo bogus that the peak GAVE those tickets away!!!! I know I won't be listening to them anymore!!! What a croc of crap!!!

There are a LOT of really jerky DJs out there in radio land. It's almost like it's in their job description. A guy I grew up with became a DJ. We hadn't talked in years until one day he phoned me up out of the blue. He used to be such a nice, quiet, sweet guy and yah... he turned into a jerk. He said several things during the conversation that were really rude. Anyway, that's just one fer instance. A guy at work who has a weekend DJ gig can be quite the lame jerk too. Harumph... I would NEVER date a DJ. heehee

don't listen to the peak- it's a big waste of time-

KSLX (100.7) is where it's at. and they are supposedly having a real honest to goodness contest this morning with their morning show guy... i think he starts at 5:30 or 5:45 when they do their Beatles 5 song block or whatever it is... i'm normally getting ready for bed or on my way home at about that time so i don't pay too much attention... but if you see this post before then... check out kslx for their morning stevie contest today. good luck!

he sounds like the d.j. who got in trouble for saying they were giving away a hummer & it ended up being a toy car & the other d.j. that said they were giving away 100,000.00 & ended up giving the contest winner a candy bar~ it is just ridiculous!!!~

hey, I am really lucky--I listen to the Drive 97.1 out of Chicago and they have great DJs and play alot of Mac and Stevie. They do not do the talk stuff and do not do any contests--they just play the good music. Any one who needs a good classic rock station can stream it on www.wdrv.com . They also have deep tracks you can stream :thumbsup:that is where you can hear FM songs you never hear on the radio.

I am a DJ - on public radio in Oregon. I don't get paid for what I do, I do it for the love of music. We have a number of commercial stations here, which are (as are most commercial stations) just horrible. Once you've heard public radio here, you'd never go back to the drek the big national chains dish out!

The obnoxious and arrogrant commercial DJ's turn my stomach, especially when stations like the one I'm involved with have such amazing talent and diversity available.

There are a lot of FCC rules to which all stations have to comply - especially pertaining to contest and give aways. I would recommend anybody who cares enough to follow up with the FCC and find out if these guys broke the rules or not.

What a passive-aggressive little **** he sounds like.

Radio DJs are, in general, the lowest of scum. Ignore them when you can.

Mokona 08-04-2005 12:21 PM

Geez, a premium package and it went to some non-fan? Grrr...I would've heaved the radio into a wall. You have to wonder what the package included - maybe a backstage pass?

That said, I never listen to radio except for an AM news station. I worked with a guy who DJ'd as a part-time job, and obnoxiousness just flowed out of his pores constantly. Ugh.

Hi public radio buddy :wavey:

I work in Public Radio as well - but I do get paid and am a news reporter rather than a DJ :D

Anyway - which station in Oregon out of curiosity?

And yeah - commercial radio is rubbish.

Hi there!
I've been doing a couple of shows on KRVM (91.9fm) - started out with Women In Music - 4 years on that, and the last 4 years I've been doing a world music show called New World.

And no, to the rest of you: all DJ's are not obnoxious! There are some of us who love the music and love our listeners and DO care whether the person winning a ticket to a show will really attend or not. Try not to generalise just because you listen to commercial mass-market stations...
