I noticed that Gold Dust Woman was pushed down further in the set. When did the set list order change? I guess I haven't been paying close attention to the last few shows.

Sorcerer
Stand Back
Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You
Gold Dust Woman
Circle Dance

*sigh*
was it good?

My cousin was there tonight...just got off the phone with her...said Stevie ROCKED the Bay tonight.

SpyNote 07-31-2005 02:51 AM

It rocked! It's such a joy seeing Stevie enjoy herself on stage. She's so much animated and lively this time around. And of course, looking "foxy" as that LA poster read (57 & Foxy)

It was a fun show, but nothing really stood out for me. I had a lot of fun dancing and seeing all the Sulamith Wulfing art displayed. But it kind of seemed like the Vegas show back in May. I dunno...maybe I'm getting a little burned out?

Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You was dedicated to a local guy, her "best friend" from her College of San Mateo days... For the life of me, I cannot remember his name, something Fogle.

Landslide was dedicated to Vanessa Carlton.

The Edge walk was business as usual, though a guy had his little girl on his shoulders. When Stevie saw her, she put both her hands to her face and gave the cutest "awwww" expression.

Rock and Roll was a nice treat, but it wasn't on fire as much I thought it would be.

But I won't complain too much. I didn't score front row seats. I was perched on Ticketmaster for the past three weeks, but couldn't get anything better than 7th row. But it was still a most excellent seat. Right in the center.

I think the guy's name was Bob Fogle.

I agree that it was a good show but nothing stood out. I enjoyed hearing all the "baby you can't save me now, you can't free me now (if I'm remembering correctly), you can't do it now" at the end of GDW. I hadn't heard all that before.

Jana is now the embassodor-ess of love. I thought all you Jana lovers out there would appreciate that.

Your review was good for me, as I was sobbing earlier that I wasn't there. I did see Vegas, so...
anyway, I hope you still had a great time. And wasn't it a beautiful evening here??? Ha, that was part of my sorrow...
Thanks for the notes. :)

Yes, it was a very comfortable night in Concord. It must have cooled down 20 degrees when the show started. As much as I gripe about Concord, it's really not all that bad (I just hate straying from San Francisco because I don't have a car). The area is actually quite beautiful and picturesque against the mountains. And the venue itself is very cozy and serene. There were patches of emptiness on the lawn, but the house seemed pretty full up until the very end. I walked up the aisle during Beauty and the Beast (normally, I would never leave my seat until the concert is completely finished but I had to buy a zillion tourbooks for people, which I had forgotten to do!)

One other note... I really like that Vanessa girl. Not so much her music, but she seems like a really cool person. She has a witty, self-effacing sense of humor which was actually quite charming and drew quite a few laughs from the audience. I thought she was a very good choice to open the show.

I love Concord. It's warm, and outside. :) Glad you enjoyed it this time.
Of course Vanessa. She's a Cancer!
thank you again. :xoxo:

The pacing of the show has improved vastly since Las Vegas, as have the visuals projected across the video screens. The editing of the visuals was particularly improved...No unicorns prancing across water here!

"Enchanted" still doesn't feel quite right as the show opener. It's an upbeat song, but I feel something else would serve better to kick off her concerts.

"Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" was okay. "Outside The Rain" was excellent; at one point she was almost speaking in tongues. The line, Love is a word that some entertain and, if you find it you have won the game was cut off a bit at the beginning due to the microphone's placement, but the words and Stevie's delivery maintained their emotional "oomph." The now-familiar segue into "Dreams" came, and I am one of the few who still enjoys that song in concert.

"Rhiannon" opened with the same dark grand piano solo as in Las Vegas. As in The Dance, the lilting piano melody gave way to a slower introduction ending in "He still cries out for her..." In my opinion, this is the best "Rhiannon" performed in a long time--since at least '97. It no longer is a slow point as was the case during the SYW tour. At the end Miss Nicks yelled "Well I don't think you'd do" several times, punctuating each with a point of her finger and motion of her head. Very well done, an improvement upon Las Vegas. "Sorcerer" came next, and she sang the heck out of being tired and thirsty and wild-eyed, inquiring who found the lady from the mountain.

"Stand Back" was just awesome--good and fun and danceable as it ever has been. I noticed a good amount of twirls, attitude, and even a high kick at the end. As the lights went down, the opening chords of "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You" rang out. It was dedicated to her nieces and nephews in the area and also to a man named Bob Fogelberg (I think?) whom she went to community college with (he really supported her dreams during those years). Turns out Stevie went to College of San Mateo, which is where I'll be in a couple years. While talking about her time spent in this area, how both what she is and what she is doing now have their roots here, there were tears in her eyes. I thought her performance dripped with emotion, and it brought some extra water into my eyes. (This was my first "HAEWAFY" in concert.)

"Gold Dust Woman" was a definite highlight--I think this one is better without Fleetwood Mac. Waddy does some oriental-sounding guitar work at the beginning that builds quite an aural atmosphere. There are also some dark, ominous...almost "whisper" noises that have been added to the instrumentation. She gave a good performance, and the anguished scream was less like "The Dance" and more like a stronger version of the cries towards the end of the Rumours album cut. Liked the "baby you can't save me now" etc. towards the end. Next up was "Circle Dance," and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Stevie did a good job interperting the song, although some people choose to get booze refills at that point.

The Gold Dust Tour band was introduced, and then they all launched into "Fall From Grace." There was some added spunk in tonight's "Fall From Grace," and I think Stevie has begun to feel comfortable performing it. Unfortunately, I could not make out whether she hit the "surviiiiiiiiive" note because Jana Anderson seemed to be singing a little too loudly. It still rocked pretty hard.

Stevie dedicated "Landslide" to Vanessa Carlton, and of course to the audience. "Landslide" was very nice, and seeing pictures of her throughout life was a nice touch. I'm not sure I am crazy about the harmonies added a la her original vision of "Landslide;" I like to hear just her singing those timeless lines.

When the drum solo before "Edge of Seventeen" began, I got myself into my wheelchair and headed for the stage. I managed to get on the leftmost side of the stage. "Edge of Seventeen" was wonderful, once again at least as good as it ever has been. A young woman was nice enough to help me up, and I was one of the first people to shake Stevie's hand. I said 'thank you,' and apparently she can read lips because she mouthed back 'you're welcome.' That was really nice, and I'm glad I could be right up there this time. "Edge of Seventeen" rocked until its climax, and then I didn't quite know what was next on the setlist.

Stevie came out wearing pants and a top hat. She did Elvis-like motions with her knees and legs. She belted out "Rock and Roll." Lots of energy and animation, she bowed her top hat at the end. I was impressed.

"Beauty and the Beast" was good. Her voice and conviction were spot on, dramatic to the last note...but nothing compares to unexpectedly seeing it performed at Caesar's Palace in the Colosseum.

I had a wonderful time, and overall this was an improvement on the Las Vegas show I saw (5/13).

Love you, takie. :xoxo:
Glad you had a good time, good review! So stoked that you got to touch stevie's "edge" hand. :] *sigh, sob*

Good show I thought her energy level was good throughout .She gave a great reading of "Fall form Grace' and one thing that bothers me is that only the die hards in the first few rows were standing up during this song whereas everyone did during the old chestnuts Edge and Stand Back .If this is the reception a great performance of a very good newer song gets I'm beginning ,after all my grousing,to understand why she is seeming hesitant to record a new album .

Stevie dedicated Has Anyone to her nieces and nephews in the Bay Area? Interesting.

Thanks for the excellent review. Both Stevie and Lindsey seem to get emotional when performing up there. Very cool reviews.

Amber...you didnt go? moula? I probably would have hocked my tv if I needed eighty bucks for a Stevie show...thats how sick I am.

Ya we can blam Crappy radio on this one, instead of playing RAP CRAP and other Sh2t music we get shove down out throats every time we fire up the radio. No radio airplay for Stevie. they won't play her music because it's not hip
like this RAP CRAP and bubble gum jungle music Sh2t . I dont blame Stevie holding back on recording, if radio played "Fall From Grace" more often maybe the people would recognize the song.also this includes MTV.

Hey I don't want my MTV . it sucks......

DeeGeMe 07-31-2005 09:36 AM

I noticed the same thing with Fall From Grace during the Charlotte show. You could tell who the die-hard fans were because we were singing along and still standing while some of the other folks just sat down during that number. How the hell can you sit down during FFG? It KICKS major ass! Anyway, I was quickly able to figure out who the true Stevie fans were around me after that little episode. LOL. Amateurs. (Shaking head).
