Bella Donna to return to The Canyon
By Stephanie Bertholdo

Michele Tyler, the lead singer for the Fleetwood Mac tribute band Bella Donna, was paid the highest tribute recently when the musician that she impersonates— Stevie Nicks—heard her act and sang praises about her performance.

Through a mutual acquaintance, Nicks listened to a Bella Donna performance via cell phone during the middle of their show in Temecula. Tyler said that Nicks, who was traveling on a U.S. tour of her own, was complimentary of her band's work. Nicks enjoyed the performance so much that she invited Tyler to meet her at her show in Las Vegas at the end of July.

Bella Donna, A Tribute to Stevie Nicks, will be performing at 8:30 p.m. Thurs., July 14 at The Canyon club in Agoura Hills. The band has developed a large following of aging baby boomers, Tyler said.

"People just get a very intimate connection with tribute bands," Tyler said. "We're easy to approach, we're cheaper to go see. But we have to be every bit as good or better (than the bands that we portray) because you have so many critics out there who know everything about the band."

Fleetwood Mac emerged as one of the great rock bands during the early '70s, with such hits as "Rhiannon," "Over my Head" and "Landslide."

Die-hard fans expect Tyler not only to sing like Nicks, but to act and dress like the sultry lead singer, right down to her jewelry.

Tyler wears a silver triangle and gold half-moon jewelry that has become more than just a nod to Nicks or a fashion statement. The jewelry design now doubles as the Bella Donna logo. Tyler also enjoys wearing the same kind of clothing as Nicks during her performances.

"I've always preferred black because it makes you look thinner," Tyler said. "Growing up in '60s, I've always liked the ethereal gypsy look, so it's not a hard stretch for me to want to dress that way."

Bella Donna performed at The Canyon in February.

"We're excited about the response we've been getting from our audiences," said Tyler. "We love playing tribute to Stevie and her impressive body of work. The fact that our audiences have been so responsive is really satisfying for us."

Tyler, a professional singer for 20 years, appeared on "Your Big Break," a Dick Clark Productions TV show, where she portrayed Grace Slick of The Jefferson Airplane.

Other members of Bella Donna include Tyler's husband, Bob Weitz, lead guitarist and producer; Allie Pomerantza, a Los Angelesbased vocalist; Robbie Diggs, drummer; Bruce Lawrence, guitarist and vocalist; Lisa Lynch, vocalist; Ralph Carter, bass playerand Ken Dayton, keyboard player and percussionist from Westlake Village.

Tyler and Weitz have lived in Oak Park for over 13 years.

Hey Seeker!
This was already posted, and it is so awesome, I bet Michelle is just beside herself, to meet Stevie privately in her hotel room, and have the one on one time...I, for one, think it is fantastic!
Stevie's Mom once told me she had told Stevie what I do ( I sing for a Stevie tribute band, as well, called Timeless) and Stevie had said she thought it was "cool", so that was totally fine with me :) Most of the Stevie tribute bands out there are WAY COOL, and I give Kudos to them for ROCKIN IT!

Thanks seeknpeace- Michelle is a FABULOUS person, a wonderful musician, and I am very happy for her to have this wonderful opportunity.

Michelle and I are very close, and she has given me some wonderful ideas and pointers. Not often that THAT happens in the Trib world, she is one of a kind and I am honored to know her and the family.
Much Stevie Love,
Ocie

I am sure that she does, the band is Belladonna. You probably can find her site on any Stevie page that has links? I don't know if you guys saw, but, she was mentioned by Lori Nicks in the question answer section on the Nicks Fix very recently as a tribute band that Stevie got to hear and was very impressed with. That speaks volumes! And, she has humility...so sbe is tops. Michelle, you won't say it so we can say it for you!!

I've seen Bella Donna several times and know Michelle personally and they are phenomenal! Michelle is an absolute angel. I could not be happier that she is going to meet Stevie. If anyone deserves it it's Michelle. If anyone has the opportunity to see Bella Donna do it! I love their CD as well.

Thanks so much Pip!! Michelle and Ocie, both of you, I enjoy your music so much and it is such a wonderful thing when you get to meet that person that has had such a part of your life. When Stevie is impressed enough to meet a tribbie, that is like Whoa! I mean, we can all stand somewhere hoping she will come by, but, when she comes to you? Congratulations Michelle!!

Congrats to Michelle, and good luck to everyone in those Stevie/FM tribute bands!

I'd love to see a tribute band if they ever came to Dallas. Hell I'd even settle for a bad drag queen, just to see someone do some Stevie. But I admit I stil have mixed feelings about them. Like if they sound too much like Stevie or the Mac, isn't it kind of like ripping them off and living off of them? I don't mean just the Stevie Nicks bands but all of them like Springsteen's tribute bands and Petty's. I just have mixed feelings about it - eventhough it's obvious Stevie is cool with it. But that won't stop me from going to see them - if they'd only come out to Texas.
