Announcement by chief justice said to be imminent

Following on the heels of Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist will announce his retirement before the end of the week, according to court sources cited by columnist Robert Novak.

O'Connor suprised many court watchers when she gave President Bush a resignation letter last Friday while all eyes were on the ailing Rehnquist.

this will really change the make up of the court. My hubby is a lawyer, and says if they get the wrong mix, they may try to overturn Roe v. Wade. Who knows, though.

We are living in intersting times.

As for Rehnquist - *sigh* It seems that the White House etc. likes to issue big news like that on Fridays - there was a story about that on NPR (places issuing things on Friday) - I hope the rumors aren't true :distress:

Yup. Morgantown, WV. It really doesn't look like that. He spoke on the University's campus so it would look all rustic and old. It's very much a city. He's good at fooling the public like that.
