I think this is great that Stevie is getting involved in this cause..

It will also help to fill some of the lawns at her shows this summer

Um... except that Live 8 is not a money-raising effort. It's to raise awareness. So, one must wonder where this money is going?

I'm not just saying... Bob Geldof has said. This isn't about raising money - it's about raising awareness.

What good is raising awareness about poverty if no one is going to donate money? The issue here is a lack of money so obviously donations are an appropriate course of action. Brad Pitt and Jewel can do those stupid black and white commercials until the cows come home but what good are they going to do without people donating to the cause? Just so that we can all sit around and feel sorry for these people?

I swear this isn't Stevie...it's a 30 year old in a Stevie suit at the moment...she is just still managing to keep up guessing :)

I think their main goal is to influence the leaders at the G8 summit coming up to commit to aid...So I'm guessing the donation is for the expenses of the Live 8 concerts?

That may well be; I don't disagree. However, Live 8 is not meant to be a money raiser. It is an awareness raiser. According to Sir Bob and Bono and all of them, they want the people who go to the concerts to "hold their governments accountable" and press them to donate a portion of their GDP to African debt relief. It's not something that is going to happen overnight - this is a 10-year project, according to Sir Bob.

I, for one, am incredibly cynical about this whole thing. I don't think most people who are going to the concerts see them as anything more than a free one-day concert extravaganza. I don't think most of them have any clue what a percentage of GDP towards foreign debt means. I don't think the majority of performers who sport big-ass diamonds realize that people die for those diamonds (ever heard the term blood diamond). Or care.

There is a faction of people that disagrees with me, and feels that these concerts are going to spark the next global social movement. I guess we'll see.

But bottom line, whether you think it should be raising money or not, it's NOT. And so I wonder where this money is going.

No - but they're not purporting to rasie the money for advertising. They're purporting to raise it as part of this campaign.

"It's about raising awareness for global poverty," said Holmes [an organizer of the Canadian Live 8]. "Mr. Geldof said it best, `it's about opening your minds, not your wallets."'

As you can see, this is really bugging me. I got an email today from Palace Entertainment (which is the umbrella owner of DTE in Detroit, where I've bought tickets to), and it has a special on lawn tickets to dozens of its summer shows and purports to be giving part of the money raised to the Live 8 fund.

People, there is NO Live 8 fund!!! It's a dirty trick to get people to buy more Palace Entertainment tickets. They want people to say "Oh, it's for charity - lets' do it." Where is that money going???
