.....Pittsburgh '05....The Curtis Review
Well, I just got in from my fantastic Saturday night, Sunday morning adventure to the Stevie/Don Show at Post-Gazette. Holy Shiz! I had a blast. <3
Instead of just talking about Stevie, Stevie, Stevie....I'm going to do a play-by-play of what went down before, during, and after the show. Saturday: 5:00 pm. I arrive in Washington, PA to wait for Paula and Ryan at the hotel. Little did I know there was a wedding reception in the lobby....I walked in looking all ghetto in a black tank top and a pair of bell bottom jeans. Yeah. Odd. Stares. I guess I didn't fit in since I wasn't wearing cowboy boots and red bandanas. :o I just went to Wendys and had a few nuggets. Oddly enough, I got more stares there. I guess they never saw a homo before. 6:00 Ryan and Paula arrive in the mist of a downpour. Like the dummies we are, we just talked in the rain and unpacked our cars like nothing was going on. This was the first sign that we will be smelling like wet dog for the rest of the night. The hotel wasn't much better. It was skank. Like skank. Major Skank. We felt like were in the middle of a redneck family reunion. All of our neighbors were outside smoking crack in lawn chairs...drinking beers...grilling! (Who grills in a hotel??!?!?!). To top it off, one of the rooms had a buffet line and people were going in and out...in and out. People? Oops...I meant just one guy. The same guy past our window like 20 times with a different plate of food each time...no lie. 6:30 Ryan took a shower and was getting ready. Paula and I do the sacred Gold and Braid dance, SOTM Tongue-Yell, Stand Back (LIB) dance, and Drank-A-Little.....drank a lot, to waste some time  7:15 Time to leave. It seems like it took FOREVER to get to the venue. We were afraid Brian wasn't going to make it from NY. We thought he was hours away from the venue and could possibly make it to Stevie's set, but definately not Don's. We were freakin' and just excited about the show. 8:00 We arrive at the venue. The opening act lady was still singing so we were pleased that Don hadn't started. Well, we knew we had at least 1/2 hr to kill. Much to our surprise, Brian was already there! We meet under the big ballon and proceded to the mechandise counter. The first thing I said was, "How big does the pink hoodie come in?" Everyone laughs. "XL," said the lady. I bought it. Paula didn't think I was serious when I said I wanted one....well...she was wrong. I also bought this shirt that I thought was official. We looked at it and we don't think it is....It looks like the cover of the Luck Charms box. Paula has a pic. You will see. The shirt is more shady than the hotel room. 8:30 The show starts. Don does his thing...ya know Genie...those songs. Well, Ryan and I sat together and Paula and Brian sat together in the exact same seats and row on the other side. It was weird....we were both directly under the orange light. Anywho, Ryan and I were dancing...the only ones in our section. The lady behind us told us to sit down. I told her no, that it was a concert and I paid good money to stand if I wanted to. I thought that would be the end of it. Hotel California came and went....Stevie was awesome, of course....and the guy next to me got up in my face and started yelling at me for standing up. Like I thought he was going to punch my face in. I was freaking a lil. He left and never came back. It was weird. I thought I would have a bloody nose for sure. During Last Worthless Evening or NYM, I did a lil hand gesture to Stevie and she mimicked back to me on stage. It was cute. I guess she could make out my gesture since I was directly under the light. I dunno, but she did the same thing right after me and smiled. |
Part 2
10:00 Stevie came on...finally. Great show. I :even: danced to Bootylicious...ick OTR was perfection. Great Vocal. The Dreams hula dance was sooooo adorable. Still, I was smelling like wet dog. Rhiannon rocked pretty damn hard. We could tell she was doing different vocals and scales....it was nice to hear a change. Enchanted was upbeat.
GDW was killer! OMG. Paula and I both loved Don's vocal on this. They had so much interaction. I know a lot ppl have been talking about no interaction, but they held hands....they danced together. He twirled her three times like a ballerina at the end. It was soooo cute! The yell was A+. SDMHA....wow. It was the best I have ever heard of this live. Their vocals were right on! It wasn't deep...it was sung very well. Circle Dance...ya'll know about that one. Stand Back....another killer. She rocked the house. The was a mic problem at the beginning of B&TB...so the first few lines were not heard over the speaker...but other than that, a dramatic performance. And yes, we all 4...known as the Three Fags of Rhiannon...and Paula rushed the stage during Edge. I'll let Paula tell her story...(BOOBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) but on my side, Ry and I both got "hand grabs" by Stevie and we played with her Frankenboks...which were Bedazzled. I said to her "I love Street Angel" in a quiet voice. She nodded and said "Thanks" and moved down the row. Waddy threw his pick and everyone thought it was gone cuz no one could find it. I found it in my pocket later....How it got there, I don't know. It was another weird thing. Oh, and the Edge yell lasted forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean, she screamed that bitch out! L&L and SYWBARNRS were good closers. We stayed leaning on the stage during those two. Ry and I got a point and a lil wink from Don. That was cool. Oh, and during L&L, Don was playing with Stevie's shawl....removing the tassels from her fingers. It was kinda erotic. 11:30 We BSed with Brian out in the parking lot for a few and took some awesome pictures. He left and we eventually left as well. We went to McDonalds. Dumb people. We order from the dollar menu. "We don't have dollar menus at night." Me ordering for Ryan: "A number 1" Worker: "We don't have #1s at night." Me: "What do you have?" "2,3,4,5,7,8" WTF!?!?!?!?!?!? Me for Paula: "Diet Pepsi to drink." "We don't have diet pepsi. We have diet Coke." "Ok" I order for me and then say "A diet." "What kind of diet" HELLO?!?!?!? You only have diet Coke you twit. We ended up with a Big N Tasty, or as Ryan called it McTasty., "moist" Chicken Nuggets, Chicken sandwich and crappy fries. We ate them anyway.... Anywho...ordering took 10 minutes. The funny thing is Stevie's Free Fallin' was playing before we even reached McDonalds. It was still playing after we ordered. HOW LONG IS THAT SONG!?! 3:00am Paula and I are still up talking about stuff and taking pictues of our Hoodies. Wait until you see them... I love her and we had such a good time chatting the night away in the Skank Hole. OH well, I fitted in the surroundings cuz I still smelt like wet dog. 10:00 We awoke. Watched TV. I learned a lot this morning. I learned about debt and retirement, watching that you don't burn your Pie-Hole while eating a WongTong, and it takes a skinny bitch to travel the world. (You would have had to been there to laugh...it was funny sh*t). 12:15 We said our goodbyes after we ate at Bob Evans.....All I can say is JUDY! :) Loved it. I had a great time. I miss Ry, Bri, and Paula bunches. Ah...I might cry now.... |
Excellent. :xoxo:
I'm glad you held your own with that mad guy, Dancing Queen. glad you had a good time, can't wait to see pics. Who's the lady opening for them? |
Your review is great. I'm glad you had such a good time. :blob2:
The buffet line? Priceless! Getting a wink from Henley? Shocking! Telling Stevie you love Street Angel? That takes some b*lls, honey. I love how Waddy's guitar pick magically ended up in your pocket. His aim must be pretty good after all these years. ;) |
That is one great and funny review! Glad you had such a great time.

As many times I have seen her in concert, I was still in awe went she swooped down to grab my hands. I barely said anything. I doubt she heard what I said exactly. She was prolly like "Oh, yeah...he said something nice." So, a nod and "Thank You" was appropriate for her. hehehe
