What do you save?

If they're still in good shape, I save:

Plastic shopping bags
Twist ties
Gift bags/bows

I also make futile attempts to save money. :D

Anyone else?

strandinthewind 06-06-2005 12:23 PM

certainly not money

I've saved every paper and note taken in college. I've also saved my text books (the ones that couldn't be sold back). I have this inane fear that one day, i'll need them again (really, I think I may). I save plastic shopping bags because we line the trash cans with them. I save e-mails, PMs, notes that were passed to me in high school (just because reading them now makes me laugh). I used to save jewelry boxes and things to reuse but i've since thrown them out.

Much like Jason, money? Not so much.

bubble wrap + foam packaging wrap
screws and fasteners
magazine articles (scanned and then tossed)

i used to be really really retentive, i didn't save like stacks of newspapers or anything (not that there's anything wrong with that), but until recently i kept all of my old gnarly nail polish, movie ticket stubs, matchbooks, and batteries. the polish was gross, i didn't need all 14 Titanic stubs, i don't smoke any more so i don't need like 20000 matchbooks, and those batteries were probably dead when they went into the box years ago. i'm better now.

i had three big boxes of trash scraps of paper and notes from high school that i couldn't bear to just throw out. i scanned every last little shred of paper and then ceremoniously hauled it out to the trash. i wasted a day of my life, but i ended up with one small shoebox of the most important stuff and 25 square feet of closet space. fair deal.

Save 'em.

I save the rubber bands that bundles of asparagus are bound with. They're usually purple.

i basically only keep gift bags.

i hate clutter.

i even throw away the plastic cases that CDs come in and just keep the cd and artwork. (well not my officially released stevie/mac/lindsey/christine... etc cds)

Books, and looking around my house, CRAP, as well. Most of it appears to be paper crap. There's some plastic bag crap. Some crappy clothes. Oh, and cigarette butts, too - gotta save those! I think I also have some crap saved in my fridge....Oh, and I save Cats, who are never as grateful as you would want...I save clothing catalogues. For a long time. As if I will buy the clothes.

-Gift bags
-Most of my notebooks/binders from college (though some desperately need organizing)
-Textbooks I deemed worthy
-Emails
-Cards. I think I have every card I've received since birth.

I used to save beer bottle caps in a big plastic tub. When I realized that I could glue them to everything in my house and cover every surface, I reluctantly threw them away. Now I only keep what I've drank that night out, so I know how many I've had.

Speaking of drinking beer- is it really that weird to bring a bottle of beer down with you to your apartment building's laundry room while waiting? I got the weirdest look from a couple of people last night.

ontheEdgeof17 06-06-2005 01:38 PM

-every vase that I get flowers in

-all my checks that ger returned once they are processed through the bank

-all my notes from Nursing School

-gift bags

-and I save lives

Considering in New Orleans where I am mostly from, they have a laundromat/bar on St. Charles Ave. called Igor's and that place ROCKS most afternoons. So, no, one bottle of beer is so not weird
