Breakup songs
Hey guys (& girls)
I just broke up with my girlfriend of nearly 3 years. I have been listening to High & Dry by Radiohead all afternoon....anyone got any songs they can suggest for me? |

Sorry to hear about that. :distress: When I'm sad and heartbroken, I tend to take a razor, make the wound deeper, and ground salt into it. So I'm not sure you want my suggestions....
Hopefully someone will rescue with some better sources of recovery... |
Old school U2. Like Joshua Tree, etc.
Fiona Apple, Sarah McLachlan, and Alanis always helped me... but then again, I'm a chick. Coldplay-- "Warning Sign," is also good for a good cry. Good luck, hon. |

About the songs, in similar situations (excluding FM and Stevie) I usually go: -with big doses of Joni Mitchell (two favourites are Blue and Both Sides Now 2000 version) - Alanis Morissette - Forgive Me love -Bette Midler - Stay With Me Outkast - Ms.Jackson Charles Trenet - Que Reste-T-Il De Nos Amours - Janet Jackson - Son of A Gun (for when I'm really angry :D ) Sly and the Family Stone - If You Want Me To Stay... one of my favourite energizers. Romy |
Melissa Etheride - Bring me some water.
Fiona Apple -Get Gone. |
Good breakup songs that definitely show my age: ;)
I Will Survive- Gloria Gaynor Against All Odds- Phil Collins Please Don't Go- KC and the Sunshine Band But my alltime winner goes to "Cry" by Faith Hill. I wasn't even IN a breakup when this song came out and it made me bawl. Good luck to you- it WILL get better. xoxo |
I listen to pretty much only sad music. So the songs I have are grievous ones! But here goes:
Emmylou Harris: Goodbye Jann Arden: Cherry Popsicle Tori Amos: Hey Jupiter, 1000 Oceans Kate Bush: You're the One (holy ****! the lyrics are cheesy, but I bawl every time I hear this one!) Indigo Girls: Ghost Sinead O'Connor: Nothing Compares 2 U, What Does Not Belong To Me Loreena McKennitt: Dante's Prayer (another WEEPER!!!) Lucinda Williams: Lonely Girls, I Envy The Wind Tanita Tikara: Lovers in the City, I Might be Crying (brace yourself for these ones too!) Joni Mitchell: A Case of You I'm a believer in wallowing in self pity! So, if you wish to follow my lead, listen to these ones! |

I'm really sorry about your breakup. :(
As for music, I guess it all depends on how you feel about the situation. Are you- Trying to make peace with it? "Anything for You" Miami Sound Machine "Here We Are" Miami Sound Machine "Without You" Kim Richey "Seven Seas" Sarah Brightman "So Many Stars" Carly Simon "Keep Me" Kim Richey Desperately lonely? "So Lonely" The Police "Fading" Kim Richey "Shoot the Moon" Norah Jones "Untouchable Face" Ani DiFranco "You Still Touch Me" Sting "Every Once in Awhile" Blackhawk Angry and pissed and wanting her gone for good? "You Oughta Know" Alanis "Enid" Barenaked Ladies "Sleep to Dream" Fiona Apple "Girl Like That" matchbox twenty "Happy Now?" No Doubt "Gravel" Ani DiFranco "Think for Yourself" The Beatles "Better Your Heart than Mine" Trisha Yearwood "Told You So" Barenaked Ladies "Break Your Heart" Barenaked Ladies Those are just my picks; I haven't a clue if you like any of the same music I do, but here it is. |

Sorry to hear that. :( My pick would be:
Special - Garbage I used to adore you I couldn't control you There was nothing that I wouldn't do To keep myself around and close to you Do you have an opinion? A mind of your own? I thought you were special I thought you should know But I've run out of patience I couldn't care less I used to amuse you I knew that I'd lose you Now you're here and begging for a chance But there's no way in hell I'd take you back Do you have an opinion? A mind of your own? I thought you were special I thought you should know But I've run out of patience I've run out of comments I'm tired of the violence I couldn't care less |
My pick would more than likely have to be Ben Folds Five - Song For The Dumped. Why? Because it can't help but to not make you smile at least for 2.5 seconds. Hang in there.

Amen to that. When I broke up with a boyfriend I worked with (okay, when HE broke up with me) I used to listen to one specific song on my way to work, over and over and over again, that just perfectly defined my relationship with him and how I felt about him and how he didn't feel about me. By the time I'd get there, and have to see him, my heart would be so raw and bloody, having been ripped from my chest all over again, it couldn't possibly get any worse. And yet, it did. :distress: (I'm a bit of a glutton for punishment, not to mention a tiny bit of a drama queen, in case that wasn't already apparent  ). |
