Ooooooo - too cool a topic - the part of me that is and LOVES Joan Crawford would say the bright satin, big shouldered robes of TOSOTM - but I also LOVE the Rumors crepe. Ahhh too many choices, I would have to do two sets

I'd go for 100% 80's authenticity and get try to find a classic 'square' mic like Stevie always used to use (whatever happened to that?) and drape it with roses and carnations and babies breath (I guess these days ribbon is cheaper?) and make sure that when the music starts I 'miss' my queue, sing a verse out of order or throw a few "welllllls" in there. Total RAL realness.

For me, it would have to be "the other side of the mirror" era... she was sooo over the top with her hair, and makeup, and outfits... in a sense, it was very drag queen-esque...

The song would obviously have to be "rooms on fire".. but maybe "alice"... there would be lots of smoke, a little breeze, and lots of red ribbons and bows...

but i would never ever ever ever do drag anyway, so there's no point in me discussing this any further!!! :p

Deffinitely RAL Talk To Me...I would love to do it.

I would do "When I See You Again" with the clothing in the "Big Love" video in a low Tom Waits-esque growl. Oh, wait, I've already done that.

 That would be my first choice. Talk To Me, I Can't Wait....and maybe If Anyone Falls (not RAL but close). The queens here always do three numbers so that would be my virgin show. I'd whip out classic Stevie (Stand Back, Edge, SDMHA) for the next performance. ;)

The brand name is Sennheiser. I have no idea if they make them anymore or not.

It's funny that you bring this up. I actually did a Stevie show once for an AIDS benefit. I started out with EO17 in all white; boots, legwarmers and a huge, fringed cape. Right after the "ooh" in the middle of the song, the beat changed and I twirled until Bootylicious started and ripped off the cape to reveal a fabulous sequined outfit (that I made and could barely breathe in). It got an amazing reaction and I think I made $200 in tips for the benefit, so, not too shabby. I wish I had pictures...somebody, somewhere does, but my photo guy was too drunk that night. LOL.

If there are any soundies out there I'd be curious to know why she dumped this model in favor of the other models we see presently. It looks expensive...

I remember it being discussed on some board at one point.
It was said that particular mic was favorable to female vocals.
Maybe the different mic is due to the change in her voice.

Something from the Bella Donna or Wild Heart era, I believe...I'm thinking "Stand Back"...something where I could go crazy with a shawl :-)

It would have to be something from the utterly laughable Timespace-era that would make the eyes of everyone in the audience hurt in pure agony. Hair as high as Tori Spelling's push-up bra, the worst grandma housecoat I could find with shoulderpads that looked as if 87 issues of the New York Times were stuffed into them, and gobs and gobs of make-up sprayed on by a lucky Ledgie (of my choice, naturally). I'd also use one of those area rugs that she called a shawl on the Rock A Little tour every now and then for effect, too. As far as my song choice goes, I'd ditch one of her songs and instead do a rousing rendition of Weird Al's "Stop Draggin' My Car Around." Just as the song is climaxing, I'd release a dozen white doves into the audience and shout "This is serious!" into the mic as if I really meant it. Stevie would hear about my grand tribute to her and invite me onto the stage for a number or two at her next Vegas engagement.

I'd probably do the whole "Stand Back", backwards treadmill thing... but I'd make a really ugly Stevie and I'd probably break my neck wearing the platforms so I'm pretty sure it will never happen.

johnny4406 05-23-2005 08:11 AM

I would never wear womens clothing! But If i ever did, it would be "Sisters of the moon" -ish Stevie. :wavey:

RAL definitely... When doing drag, the more uptempo the better. You need a short, peppy number or the entire performance will drag (in more ways than one). You also need a song without alot of dead space in it, or you will have to fill in the gaps with choreography, which can be quite difficult. EO17 is one of the worst to do. Stand Back works well, especially if you can do a dramatic beginning like the first verse of BatB, then whip off your shawl and stomp around for the rest of the show.
