SEATTLE -- Mary Kay Letourneau, whose notorious seduction of 12-year-old boy led to more than seven years in prison, has married the former student she was convicted of raping.

Letourneau, 43, and Vili Fualaau, 22, exchanged vows they had written themselves during a tightly guarded ceremony Friday night, said Janet Annino, co-executive producer of the TV show "Entertainment Tonight."

The couple have been in the spotlight since Letourneau was imprisoned in 1997. But when she was released last August, the couple _ who have two daughters together _ reunited.

The ceremony was at the Columbia Winery in Woodinville, about 20 miles northeast of Seattle, Annino said.

"Mary Kay was whisked out of the hotel to this venue under intense security," she said. "She arrived here with a sheet over her head. She had to lie down in the car coming in to avoid the paparazzi."

Letourneau and Fualaau gave a series of interviews to "Entertainment Tonight" and its sister TV show, "The Insider," which had exclusive rights to the nuptials. Show officials said they did not pay for the wedding.

Letourneau's teenage daughter, Mary Claire, from her earlier marriage, was maid of honor. The couple's two daughters, Audrey, 8, and Alexis Georgia, 7, were flower girls.

The couple first met when Fualaau was in the second grade. Their relationship became sexual when he was 12 and she was a 34-year-old married mother of four, a teacher at a suburban elementary school.

Letourneau was pregnant with Fualaau's first child when she was arrested in 1997. She pleaded guilty to second-degree child rape and was sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison, with all but six months suspended.

Within weeks of her release, she was caught having sex with Fualaau in her car and ordered to serve the remainder of her sentence. She gave birth to the couple's second daughter while serving time.

:shocked: I don't know how to explain their whole attraction to each other either. I know that age difference should not matter but he was in second grade. :confused:
Maybe they were souls that were separated early in a previous life. :shrug:

Fech, who cares? They're both adults at this point, so they can do what they want, no matter how tasteless and disturbing their initial "attraction" was.

Oy. Well, they're both adults now. I gues the cash register's a ringing for them now too. :shrug: I could care less.

Not a great way to start married life, now is it.....Their whole story is just plain weird

I wonder what her relationships is like with her children from her previous marriages. I guess her eldest daughter served as maid of honor.

looks like they still need a lot of silverware and bedding stuff. perhaps their friends want them to eat with their hands and not go to bed together.

i still go "eeeewwww" when i think about it... but at this point it seems that they really are meant to be together.

when she got out the first time, i was visiting a friend at college in seattle.. and she told me her roommate had waited on mary kay the week before at starbucks... and she ordered a coffee and a hot chocolate... and then was found having sex with the kid she was ordered to stay away from a few days later. ewww... that creeped me out.

Interestingly, she will be on the list of sex offenders that is to be barred from Six Flags as that place is about to bar all listed child sex offenders. Ironic (perhaps) isn't it because she married the guy- so was it abuse after all - i.e. intent to abuse is implied by the state because a minor cannot legally consent to sex with an adult. This is just a twisted bit - no doubt.

i thought it more than bizarre that ET was airing 'exclusive coverage' - this whole sitch completely creeps me out. and my first thought was, when did they get rich enough to blow the bank on this wedding? my second thought was CHANGE THE CHANNEL NOW...

It is really scary because in some states she would have gotten the death penalty and there as no clear abuse here in that this guy is marrying her many years later. Very very strange case :eek:

NOT INTENDING TO START AN ARGUMENT:

IMO - any adult who sees it appropriate to have sex with a 12YO is abusive. i've worked with at-risk kids - victims of abuse (all shades), neglect, foster care, ED - and reading their cases and hearing their version of things is absolutely painful. and 99% of the time, in my experiences, the physical/sexual abuse victims really didn't see anything wrong with what was happening to them at the time. 'because he told me that he really loved me' or 'she said that this was what grownups do'... when you're that young, you don't have the ability to process what's actually happening. you're taught to trust adults, especially your parents and teachers and ministers and whoever... you're 12, the person having sex with you is an adult - even if you're not being forced into it you're certainly not making a real decision.

I agree - it is and was just sick. But, this situation appears to be the one in a million where the guy did not mind it and in fact liked it. Of course, that begs the question of whether she still controls him as just would be presumed to have done in the abuse, which is an act of control. This whole thing is just so strange.

On edit - I think underlying this whole this is a sort of wink wink nod nod amongst people, esp. guys, that what teenage or almost teenage guy would not LOVE for a 30 something year old girl let him bang her. I know that sounds awful, but there is truth in it no matter how reprehensible on the part of the adult.

rape of a child under 13 can be a capital offense in some states and all sex between an adult and such a minor must be rape as their can be no legal consent from a minor in that situation.

Not to condone anything but I have wondered that myself.
