Pics of The Luxor
3 Attachment(s)
A couple people who went to Vegas mentioned they didn't get to see the Luxor, so thought I'd post some pics of the inside architecture. It was truly breath taking!!
The first picture is the lobby area. The whole place is mostly concrete and that big thing going up kinda sideways is the inclinator to the rooms located higher in the pyramid. Number 2 picture of the sphynx is on the "game" floor where the IMAX rides are. I believe the object behind it is a very very tall oblisk and the heiroglyphics are lighted with colored fiber optics. Number 3 picture is very dark because the inside of the hotel is also dark. I couldn't lighten this picture enough. It's looking down from the 23rd floor onto one of three levels of the hotel. Those round things are roofs. There are three levels. Laura |

Yes, and some day I will get to see the real "David". Right Jason? I better bring lots of film and SD cards! |
I've been to the Luxor and I think it's one of the cheesiest hotels on the strip. It's cool to see it cause no other hotels are in the shape of a pyramid but I don't think I'd want to stay there.

:o :o :o :o Well, you managed to get a few  |
When I went to Vegas, I stayed at the Mandalay Bay. My friend stayed at the Luxor. People couldn't even stay in their rooms because they were leaking! ....
Las Vegas is depressing. I went there once for 2 days and I don't feel I missed much but some clubs, which I can do here at home. |
I briefly worked at the Luxor, and so now I officially hate it.
If anybody does want to visit it though, skip The Blue Man Group. Oy, that show is terrible. |
When I was in high school our band when on our band trip to Vegas (my sophomore year) - and of course my band director and pretty much all the adults were off doing "adult things" we ran about Vegas collectign pornos mags
I remember having a lot of fun - but it was def. better when I went back last year and was "of age" lol....I tried my hand at some slots - but mostly I found Vegas to be a tad depressing as well...don't really know whey  |

Vegas seems to be about recreating things.. Faking it for profit really.. I mean that's what the place is about isn't it? Greed.. America invented the idea of greedy profit making enterprises in the first place so it's right it should have the biggest and best.. Not that I think it's a bad idea, kind of like some surreal dream world where you see families coming to blow the kid's college fund on the slots and the elderly masses converge on the place like something in Cocoon.. The world has many really amazing man made sights, the Eiffel Tower, the Pyramids, the Great Wall of China and Vegas itself is just that, a man made sight, and recreating the older ones too, albeit in a totally tacky way.. |

My daughter went with me, so the hotel was her choice. I'm into architecture, so from that standpoint, I was amazed by the building itself, but not much else. The statues were okay. It was very "themey" but that's Vegas, IMO. It's like Disneyland for adults. I couldn't live there, nor could I visit on a regular basis, it would be too much. We stayed at that hotel for 2 nights and 3 days and it DID get to be too much. We spent an actual total of 1 day and two nights there, the rest of the time we were on the strip or in other casinos. It was too dark and too dank... too much concrete. It really did start to feel like we were trapped in a tomb and that was a bit depressing. We ate twice at Mandalay which is next door and secretly said we'd wished we stayed there instead. The waitstaff were much friendlier and had their act together a lot better than the staff at Luxor. It had an Indiana Jones feel with a lot of lush palms and rattan furniture decorating the place. Live and Learn. I woulda been happy with the Best Western simply because it was a heck of a lot cheaper, I can be a bit of a tight wad! Laura |
thanks for the pics. I did not get to really see luxor or ny ny since I stayed at the mirage and never made it down that way.

Lol
When my parents and I went to Vegas on our way to California in 1998, we spent one night in Vegas.....at the Budget Inn. LMAO!!! We wanted to stay at a casino, but it was too high for the three of us.
The Budget Inn (I think that was the name) was a cute lil room, had a lil kitchenette, it was clean, but only one bed. I had to sleep on the pull out sofa and had one of the most miserable nights of my life. :( We stayed out till 1AM going from casino to casino. We went to the Luxor, Mirage, Excalibur (my fave asthetically, since I love castles), Circus, Circus (was cool because they had games and my mom and I played skee-ball, got lots of coupons and won some stuff), Treasure Island and Caesar's Palace. I loved Caesars the best indoors because of the clouds on the ceiling and it was just really pretty. I had taken my ID with me because I just KNEW they'd card me everywhere.....not once. LOL I had more difficulty getting IN to the casinos in Louisiana, but Vegas...whatevah. If you're not like 10, they don't seem to care. LOL Oh, and I will never sleep on a pull out sofa bed again. |

That's why those of us that do live here never go to the strip unless something special is going on...Stevie...or we are playing tour guide for out of town guests, or we work there. It is fun for awhile, but gets old real fast. The rest of Vegas is like a regular town outside the strip. (Except maybe for the slot machines in the grocery stores..) :wavey: |
