We have a new baby

Kitty, that is. I found her at work in the classifieds. So, I went to this man's house (holy **** did he have a nice house... hopefully I'll have that after being employed there for 25 years) and here is this beautiful black cat. They named her Kelly (WTF?) I watched her over there for a few, and she is so nice and calm. I noticed she does play a little bit; Sara was playing around some with her. She is 4 years old, spayed, declawed, and completely up to date on her shots. I got her for free. They got a dog, and the cat was petrified. She wouldn't come out. So, they decided to give her away. So, we brought her home, and the first place I sat her was in the litter box. She sat there for a minute, and went behind the washer, and hasen't come out since... poor thing. She's in kitty culture shock. I'll post a picture as soon as she is comfortable and coming out and such! Wish me luck!

That's so funny! This Saturday, I'm going to get a cat- my boss and her husband have to give away their cat, because it's clashing with their dog and their new baby... they were going to take him to a shelter, so I decided to take him. He's 5, sweet-tempered, neutered and declawed. I was nervous about getting a kitten because I've never had a pet on my own before, so really it's perfect. My boss was so relieved that she wouldn't have to take him to a shelter that she offered to pay for vet visits if needed and food and kitty litter. No way will I take that, but I thought it was sweet.

Good luck with the cat!!

Congratulations. :woohoo: My black cat went from hiding from me to ruling this house and pushing me to the middle of the bed. (She is a big girl. )

Well, I just got up, and she has moved from behind the washer to behind the couch. So, at least I know she's been out and about in the middle of the night. She'll come around in a couple of days.

Well, I was going to go to the humane society, but I really don't have the money to shell out, and I'm looking to get 2 cats, so that would be around $150. So, I figured I would find the free one's that may very well wind up at the shelter eventually. I figure if I'm going to have one, I may as well have two.
Good luck with your kitty! Show us some pics when you can.

though i must first state that i am a "dog person" - i almost ended up with a cat last year right after i moved. i'm out all day and i figured that a dog would be just waaay too lonely, so the idea of getting a cat crossed my mind when i saw an advert for one from a newly-deceased neighbor (i live in a retirement community :woohoo: ). when i went to visit the cat, it had wedged itself behind the toilet and wasn't about to show himself. one of the other betties took it and he has come around nicely.

the moral of that story is: congrats, i'm sure that after he gets used to the sights and smells of your place he'll be fine.

Woo hoo! Congratulations! I love black cats. Why they named it Kelly is beyond me; I've always thought of Kelly as name for a person only, really.

Can't wait to see pics! :woohoo:

You live in a retirement community....and your location is shady pines

------

Maria - congrats on the cat!!

She'll come around - I hear that cats adjust to new environments rather quickly :D I can't wait to see pictures...

I, myself, am a dog person - mostly because I'm way allergic to cats...but they're cute - I wish I could have them

Livia 04-20-2005 09:54 AM

Congrats on the new baby! I'm sure she'll do fine! You gotta change that name, though! :)

Maybe leave a little food and water at the end of the couch, or just past it a few inches, to lure her out?

Miss Vicky 04-20-2005 12:26 PM

Congrats!

Always thrilled to hear it when someone adopts a pet rather than buying one! (Both of my cats, all three rats, my toad, and one of my bettas were adopted) In no time she'll go from hiding from you to ruling the roost. (You do know that pets, especially cats, own you and not the other way 'round, right?)

Also - Kelly is an awful name for a cat, but don't rename her right away. Get to know her and a great name will come to you.

sara1998 04-20-2005 01:17 PM

I don't think I want to rename her, though. This morning, I swear, every time I would say her name, she would meow. That's how I found her behind the couch. So, it may stay, it may not. It is an aweful name, though.

skcin 04-20-2005 01:33 PM

You could change it slightly...

Nelly?
Jelly?
Smelly? :p

I'm glad to hear about your new fmaily member.
