The Prophecies of St. Malachy (Popes related)

It's very sad to read those news about the Pope. I'm from a catholic family though I'm not a great catholic. I disagree with many of their rules. But JP-II is a great guy, and I think the best Pope in the last times. He visited Peru twice and when I saw him, it was incredible how he could transmit peace and joy.

I remember when he was recently elected, I ws a young boy, I was reading a book about prophecies. And it mentioned the Prophecies of St. Malachy. It's a list of all the popes till the end of... the world? Rome? the catholic church? I don't know, you will read it.

But that book was edited in the mid 70s, and the prophecies are from the 12th Century. As every prophecy, it describes the future, in this case the popes with alegoric phrases, in latin. For example Pope #263 would be the "Pastor et Nauta" (pastor and marine).... And pope 263 was John XXIII who prior to his election he was patriarch of Venice, a marine city, home of the gondolas

Pope N.264 "Flos florum" (flower of flowers).. and it was Paul VI, his arms displayed three lilies.

Pope 265 "De medietate Lunae" (of the half of the moon). The book I was reading (circa 1982, but the book was edited in the mid 70s) said maybe it was a pope from an arabian region, because of the half moon flags. But it was John Paul I, elected pope on august 26, his reign lasted about a month, from half a moon to the next half... AND I KNEW IT!! I figured out about the moon phases and was in shock! because that phophecy was from the 12th century. Yeah, I know prophecies may be very ambigous so it can be easy to find an explanation according to the fact, but I was in shock anyway!

Well, Pope 266 is "De labore Solis" (of the eclipse of the sun, or from the labour of the sun), and is our dear John Paul II, Karol Wojtyla was born on May 18, 1920 during a solar eclipse. He also comes from behind the former Iron Curtain. He might also be seen to be the fruit of the intercession of the Woman Clothed with the Sun labouring in Revelation 12 (because of his devotion to the Virgin Mary). This explanation is according to a website I found. Well I'm not sure LABORE means eclipse in latin.

And the future? here is:

Pope 267 "Gloria olivae" (???? Theories are welcome)

And finally Pope 268: In persecutione extrema S.R.E. sedebit Petrus Romanus, qui pascet oues in multis tribulationibus: quibus transactis ciuitas septicollis diruetur, & Iudex tremêdus iudicabit populum suum. Finis.
(In extreme persecution, the seat of the Holy Roman Church will be occupied by Peter the Roman, who will feed the sheep through many tribulations, at the term of which the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the formidable Judge will judge his people. The End.)

In this case there is not a motto, but a complete descrption. Now, is that mean the end of the world? Rome? Or just the church or an era?

Full of some of the biggest nutbags on the planet.

That was interesting, Villavic. Thanks for posting.

Okay - but the nutbags themselves didn't write the actual prophecies...which have been around forever...

That is a revolving theory that the current Pope refused to step down beacuse his death will sort of usher in the end times....or at least the end of the church....prophecy has stated that there are only what two popes left?

Isn't one of them supposed to be really evil too?

I have been meaning to read more about this - just haven't gotten around to it iyet - I find the whole thing way fascinating.

People have been saying the end is coming for thousands of years. (Remember the last one? ) Y2K would destroy us all according to ancient writings. and....NOTHING HAPPENED. and the doomsayers were conviently quiet about that. Church types who have no understanding of science , once again, were afraid of things they don't understand. I remember them saying "planes will fall from the sky,...blah..blah...blah.....". it is sooooo easy to take things that already happened and squish them into a prophecy or two , that are normally so vague they fit anything. Most were commentaries against those in power at the time, and really don't have much to do with the actual future.

Actually, many societies have placed one end at Dec. 2012. (wait, 2013? no, It think 2012). Anyway, there have been lots of "endings" in the cycle of earth, is it not possible for another one? Usually, of course, the endings are not endings in fact, but changes, big ones. ie, different life forms on earth, fewer people who have to rebuild civilisations, etc. Just saying... :p

That date is the end of the Mayan calendar. Many people believe that is the sign that the world is going to end.

Who knows.

well, not just mayan, I think. But again, the world has "ended" a lot of times before, it could just be a new world.

ITA I think the end of the world isn't a destruction but a reformation, and I think that is totally possibly, it may not mean death but a new form of enlightenment for people.

I also have been thinking about St Malachy's prophecy today and it will be interesting to see what happens"

"Gloria Olivae" - Is that something to do with wine or wine growers? Or Olive oil perhaps, maybe someone froma region where there is lots of olive oil being made or olives grown...I could of course be totally wrong if I mistake translation.

I checked out meaning and I find an interesting description on www.crystalinks.com
under the Papal Prophecies,

Quote:

9. The Glory of the Olive. The Order of St. Benedict has said this Pope will come from their order. It is interesting that Jesus gave his apocalyptic prophecy about the end of time from the Mount of Olives. This Pope will reign during the beginning of the tribulation Jesus spoke of. The 111th prophesy is "Gloria Olivae" (The Glory of the Olive). The Order of Saint Benedict has claimed that this pope will come from their ranks. Saint Benedict himself prophesied that before the end of the world his Order, known also as the Olivetans, will triumphantly lead the Catholic Church in its fight against evil.

I'm not a fan of end times "prophecies", I don't think that anyone has knowledge of when the world will end! If one is christian then they should also believe this because even in the bible it says that no one knows but the Father! So I don't buy into any "end times" vision things! No visions or prophecies have been approved by the Catholic Church that tell anything of when exactly the end times will occurr.
