March 28 Quake & Tsunami

The USGS reports there was a tsunami from the mammoth quake three days ago. (In the hours after the quake when no onsite reports indicated tsunami occurrence, a lot of scientists thought that was extremely unusual for a subduction zone quake M8.5 or higher NOT to have generated one -- a quake that size of that type will almost certainly generate one.)

If poor Sumatra gets hit by any more tsunamis any time soon, it's going to become the Lost Country of Atlantis.

Thanks for posting, David. Interesting to see the obvious pattern that's forming as far as main shocks are concerned. Do you know of any website that would show plate tectonics over the past 50 years or so? I wonder what the current rate of movement is. It's only obvious that over many thousands (millions, perhaps) of years from now, we'll be looking at such crazy movements that will result in a complete and total change of Earth's geography. Wondering how much change (if any) resulted in the 2004 and recent earthquake.
