Computers?

Sooo..with my tax refund I'm going to get a new computer.

I know I want to stay away from E-Machines...other than that I'm sort of split about which way to go...any recomendations?

I know some of you have recently gotten new computers...any input will be helpful...

Mostly I guess I'm wondering what brands people recomend - Dell? HP? Compaq? Gateway?

Ive been doing my own research as to what I want - I guess I'd just like some feedback from real people....:D

Any input would be much appreciated :D Thanks....

If you're going to get a PC, I'd recommend Dell. I have a Dell laptop that I absolutely love and have never had any problems with. Stay AWAY from eMachines, and honestly I don't know many who are fans of Gateway or Compaq, either. I work on an HP at work and it's a piece of ****, too.

But why get a PC when you can get THIS? http://www.apple.com/emac/

or THIS? http://www.apple.com/imac/

Thanks Haley - I was leaning toward Dell - that's probably what I'll end up with - though I hate having to wait for it to get shipped to me :p

I know E-Machines are pieces of ****e which is why I'm staying far far away

Are they? My friend at work said her Dad has had his for a couple of years with no problems and loves it. Actually with a little research it seems their customer service sucks but I have never used customer service for a computer cuz I can usually figure it out. But I think the machines themselves are okay. My Dad just bought one and it is working well. It was a very good value. If you get it from Best Buy they have their own guarantee you pay just a little extra for and they'll just replace the computer if anything severe happens. I guess if you have the money I would buy a "better" machine but I wouldn't just rule these out as shoddy unless u know something I don't.

Oh yeah, and I have a Sony Vaio which I really like. It is designed as a multi-media PC. I have never really worried about it since it is a Sony. I've had it for almost 4 years now (shiza, my stomach just flopped ). The only problem I have ever had was with worms I got from the internet, but that's just Microsoft's idiocy for embedding the browser in the OS, honestly, what the hell were they thinking? Don't answer.

I <3 my computer.

When I was buying it at Best Buy there was a guy there picking out a new computer, cashing in on the garantee he bought. The cool thing was it is based on the money you pay so after a couple of years the computer you get will be a lot better if you have to exchange it. Seeing that happen made me buy that insurance which I never needed and didn't renew.

well..

I use a Sony laptop these days and they are very good machines. Dell are great machines but I've heard stories that the support is not good if anything does go wrong.. HP and Compaq are the same company, HP computers are built in good working conditions but I've heard rumours that Compaq's are built under bad working practices in the Far East..

EMachines, I think the "E" stands for excretion...

Gateway I've no experience with...

The only thing I've heard about Dell is that they make everything proprietary so it is difficult to upgrade things and mix in components from other manufacturers. But if you're not going to open up the box and mess around in it (shaddup oinkers ;) ) then that shouldn't be an issue.

Same with Compaqs.. If you wanna upgrade 'em then it's usually Compaq parts which sucks..

that's what was recommended to me, too. However, I got an HP. It's cool, it's fine, but I've only had it since September, so who knows... I recommend getting the super wall mounter for your screen, though - I love mine, it's the coolest thing ever...

I bought an HP a year ago and I love it. It is a Media Edition and I don't use half of the stuff. I need a flat panel monitor now but those are so much $. I did have a Compaq and I never had a problem with it only the OS which was the piece of crap known as Microsoft ME. YUCK! They don't think that make that OS any more. Stay far away from it!

I don't like Sony but that is my own personal preference. I never had good luck with anything that was a Sony.

HP's are good machines.

The main reason why I got the Vaio was the multimedia interface, it's cool. Plus I've always had good fortune with Sony and they look rather nice too..
