Anyone know who Ronnie Lane is?

I was just listening to the RAL Austin, TX boot and Stevie dedicates HAEWEFY to Ronnie Lane and says something about him being a wonderful guitar player. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knows how Stevie knew him?

I did a search on him and I guess he was a member of a group with Rod Stewart in the late 60s early 70s (the name of the group escapes me). He later was diagnosed with MS and died in 1997.

The name of the group was The Small Faces. I don't know how Stevie knew him but it was probably through Rod Stewart.

He lived here for awhile before he died - he was probably at the show that nite. Ian McLagan, keyboard player and another member of the Small Faces, also lives here, and has for many years. He gigs regularly at the Saxon Pub, and the Lucky Lounge. Before Ronnie became too ill, he would sit in with Ian occasionally.

On a sidenote: Mark Andes, former bass player with Heart and Stevie, now plays w/ Ian. :wavey:

A correction, first there were The Small Faces (without Rod Stewart), then there were The Faces (with Rod the Mod).

Ronnie also recorded several recommendable solo albums. The one he did with Pete Townshend (Rough Mix) is very much worthy of picking up.

I Miss You

Could he be the "friend" who died during the Dance tour? I do not recall if she has ever mentioned who or what her friend died from, but I recall her saying that she wrote I Miss You about a close friend of theirs that died during the Dance.
I know she said she had a friend who was dying of Aids and that she wrote a poem for him. I have wondered if he could be the same friend that she wrote IMY about but now it seems more likely it was this guy, Ronnie Lane and Touched by an Angel was originally the poem about her friend with Aids. (I still do not think TBAA sounds like it is all about this friend but I know most people do)

I remember that there was some kind of benefit for him about 15 or more years ago. I read back then that Stevie was there and she held Ronnie's hand while he was in his wheelchair. That is all that I remember. I think that Rod Stewart was there too and may some members from the Who but I really can't remember.
