Georgia Legislature is an a$$$
Well, just when they promised the neocons that they would get to vote on whether the keep the Confederate flag as part of the Georgia flag then totally renigged on that (the poor neocons are lied to once again - will they ever win http://www.georgiaheritagecoalition....onny-lie.phtml ), a situation perhaps best detailed in this photo from that outrageously conservative site
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...eppelinDiv.jpg the Legislature now dangles this carrott - a bill banning all abortions in defiance of Roe and the Supremecy Clause in the U.S. Constitution http://www.religioustolerance.org/abogalaw.htm |
I couldn't agree more...Sonny Perdue is the worst thing to happen to Georgia in the history of the state--probably has something to do with him being the FIRST republican governor of GA since Reconstruction...
Zell Miller might be a whacko...but he did a lot of for education in GA....and now Sonny Perdue is trying to screw Georgia college students...for instance setting up the HOPE scholarship which Perdue has continuously tried to dismantle and take funds from--a program that guarantees EVERY Georgian a paid for college education if the student maintains a B average in high school and can keep the scholarship as long as the B Average is maintained in college...HOPE has helped me more than ever in college, and I'm very thankful for it...but the things Perdue does just make me sick... The republicans of Georgia continuously stand by him, although like you said he said he would let the state vote on the flag issue--and as you know the people who voted for him, redneck republicans--got screwed because their flag wasnt even on the ballot..and yet they stand by his side...By the way I saw a "SONNY LIED" sign the other day while driving Perdue Raids HOPE Takes $1.7 Million from HOPE to Pay for Website (Atlanta) Today Gov. Sonny Perdue is announcing the launch of a multi-million dollar website. What Perdue is not telling Georgians is that he is paying for it by raiding the HOPE Scholarship Fund. Buried in his budget, Gov. Perdue has set aside over $1.7 million to pay for his website – $168,600 in Amended Fiscal Year 2005 and $1,569,400 in Fiscal Year 2006 (see below for the line items in the budget). It looks as though Gov. Perdue’s website will be funded with over $1.5 million in HOPE Scholarship funds every year since he is hiring 9 new people for it. The $1.7 million Gov. Perdue is taking directly from HOPE funds could pay the annual tuition for over 500 students, based on the $3,368 a full time undergraduate student can expect to pay at any of the state’s Research Institutions. The timing of this pilfering could not be worse. Gov. Perdue has already started cutting benefits to HOPE. Last year, he successfully fought to reduce money for books and fees based on lottery revenue levels. His plan appears likely to result in benefit cuts, making now a poor time to raid the funds that pay for the HOPE Scholarship. [The Governor’s Budget Report, Amended FY 2005 & FY 2006, p. 112] “Gov. Perdue should not be allowed to raid the HOPE Scholarship by millions of dollars while he is cutting funds to students,” said Bobby Kahn, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia. “The people of Georgia will not stand for his irresponsible behavior.” |

The GA Legis. can pass all the laws it wants, but the Federal law est. in Roe will still trump those and any other contrary state laws. Thus, though Roe may very well eventually be overturned by the Court, the current actions of the GA Legis. are no threat to the current law of Roe. Thus, you incorrectly asserted "Jason: didnt I warn you? Roe is in danger!" of the law the GA Legis. is passing, which was the satement you were responding to.
If you meant Roe is in danger in general because of the postioning of the againg and ill members of The Court and the current political and moral climate, then yes, you are correct. But, the inane and downright sactionable actions of the GA Legislature are irrelevant to Roe in same way as a fly on an elephant's rear end is  |

Actually, I admit the language of "a bill banning all abortions" got me going, so I guess now its just a knee jerk reaction. my bad! :sorry: |

I think Roe, the gay rights stuff, etc. stems from people not wanting people to be too free or free. People want others to have to obey the same oppression they choose. I think it is much more than just that, but I do think the small town mentality of persecute what is not you runs rampant in the people wanting to ban abortion, teach only abstinence, shun homosexuals, etc. I mean if people would just realize that their way of life cannot be force fed to others - the world would be a better place. Take gay people (please  ) - for the life of me I cannot fathom that with all of today's problems, the biggest issue in the last election was the morality of two people of the same sex marrying. Why do people care. Jesus and indeed God (which along with the Holy Spirit are all the same) never said that if straight people do not convert all gay people to Christianity and the world was not rid of all sinners (repentant or not) He was going to be pissed. Rather, the end time stories they believe and actively seek these days speak of people not going to Hevean because they sinned. So, why should they be so surprised that the world will still have sinners in the end times (they think gay people sin - this is not my view). Again, I think it is fearing what you don't know and jealousy of someone not bound by the rules you put on yourself. My $0.02 |
