The Dance
 

I don't know if there is an old thread for this or not, but I was wondering if anyone knew why they called the album and tour The Dance?!?! :shrug:

The name came from Matisse painting, The Dance that seemed to represent their renewed harmony... or something like that :D.

I always thought it was inspiration for the cover too, but it really doesn't look very similar.

I've always thought of it as a reference to the line in Stevie's then new offering "Sweet Girl", "I chose to dance across the stages of the world."

Kind of fitting.

I always just thought it was because a dance is often the intricate interaction of a group of individuals who work and move together to a melody or rhythm, who must complement each other, compensate for each other's weaknesses, display strength, endurance, and creativity, and respond to each other's movements and offerings to create something beautiful.

Isn't there also a famous poem named The Dance?

I'm sure Matisse would be down with that interpretation too. :)

Strange, I was actually going to post a thread in question of the Sweet Girl lyric being the inspiration for the title "The Dance." After all, they decided once again to "dance across the stages of the world."

It is definitely about the Matisse painting. But I don't know why, how or who actually chose it.

I remember L&S back in 1997, during a radio interview... somebody posted the transcription in the Ledge, or it was at Nicksfix, can't remember, but I do remember the guy asked about "The Dance" title. And Stevie said "Tell him, Lindsey. It's Matisse". And he said they had chosen it because there are 5 people in the painting, but there was no a further explanation on the inspiration or anything else, as long as I remember.

They didn't mention any relationship with Sweet girl.
