Walter Egan's 1978 Tour Diary
 

I hope this isn't a duplicate post.

These are some excerpts from Walter's diary - They are printed in the liner notes to The Meaning of Live, which was released last year on the UK label Red Steel Music. Thought I'd just post the FM related excerpts.

BTW - Walter just rereleased Fundamental Roll and Not Shy (both of which feature performances from Lindsey and Stevie) together on a single disc. It's a UK import though. If you go to www.walteregan.net you can send in for a copy, he may have some left and you can get them autographed if you like. A rerelease of Hi Fi and the Last Stroll is coming soon as well. But unfortunately no rerelease of Wild Exhibitions is on the way as yet.

Jan. 8 1978

...On Friday I went to a party with Lindsey at Mick Fleetwood's house in Brentwood where I met Bob Welch, Ron Wood and Tony Curtis - amazing. He said he liked my record, which was playing, and later set next to me getting stoned while watching Forbidden Planet on TV, telling stories of his days making movies. Quite amazing indeed! Stevie gave me a great Christmas gift: a blank diary with leather binding and gilt edges inscribed: "To one who also sees the crystal visions."


May 6

We did a gig at LA's Anson Ford Theater near the Hollywood Bowl... The best part of the day was when Stevie came on stage for the last five songs.

June 17 Norfolk, Va.

...we watched ourselves on American Bandstand, which we had taped about a month ago. It was really cool with Lindsey incognito as "Russ Hunk" playing an acoustic Gretsch.

July 3 - Wildwood, N.J.
Played tonight at a place on the Boardwalk with Kenny Loggins, who said he'd like to hook up with Stevie.

July 4 - Commack, Long Island
Gigged with Dave Mason, who was stingy with the stage space.

July 16 Lake Geneva, Wis.
Flew in to Chicago and drove here for our three days stint with Fleetwood Mac

July 19
...we hung out with Lindsey and "The Blonde in the Blue T-Bird" his girlfriend Carol, talking about out lives and music, it was really wonderful. They were staying at the Playboy club. The last show we joined them on their encore "Don't Let Me Down Again". It was a rush to share the stage with Lins and we really played well off each other.

Aug. 11 - Portland, ME
...I heard Buckingham Nicks' "Frozen Love" on the radio.

January 31, 1979 - Los Angeles
...We did two shows and at the second one we were joined onstage by Stevie and Lindsey. Truly the highlight of my year, it couldn't get much better than that; and then crazy John Belushi hopped on stage, raging into "Jailhouse Rock"! I traded grins with Lins and as he finished I knew I couldn't let my set end with him, so I ripped out the intro to "Back in the USA". Of course I had to do the solo with my axe over my head. The perfect end to an amazing year!

That was cool!

Wow, I'm suprised that made his diary. It seems like somethign one of us would write for sure. Thanks Miss Vicky, this was very intresting.

The Flintstones had a movie star called "Stoney Curtis" that's what I thought of when I read that. :laugh:

I wonder why he didn't mention that Mick & John were also in the audience for this. :shrug: (I sat at the table across the aisle from them) Mick even played drums on a song or two in the encore.
