I don't get it. Where was Lindsey? Why? Is that all that was said between them? what was the context of the comment?

jbrownsjr 12-16-2004 05:55 PM

Yes, what is this?

It is so odd that she opened this article with Lindsey's quote which seems out of context but I didn't read the whole article. It appears it was at Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events though. Meryl Streep had high praise for Jim Carrey when I saw her on Today earlier this week. I really want to see this movie!

Now, shame on her for getting his name wrong!

jbrownsjr 12-16-2004 05:57 PM

Nothing like starting an article by mis-spelling the first name........

I don't think Lindsey said it to HER, she was just using his quote...that quote sounded familiar to me from another interview...somewhere....

Jim Carrey and Martin Scorsese are both notoriously shy and insecure overachievers - maybe she used the quote to reference them??

GateandGarden 12-16-2004 06:14 PM

Is it possible that she spelled it right to begin with but the website misprinted it?

Possible.

It's not like people don't misspell it ALL THE TIME. Even fans. Repeatedly.

WelshWitchPMD 12-16-2004 07:37 PM

Gee, I thought that the article was going to mention something about Lindsey.

His name along with his date of birth have always seemed to be incorrect in the press.

People spell my name wrong all the time.

Shouldn't that be Lisa Smit? ;)

Right! Hehe.

I'm so used to seeing "LindsAy" that it hardly registers anymore. But I'm also so used to my name being spelled wrong that it hardly registers anymore either. It's just too much work to correct it all the time. ;)

The quote from Lindsey is quite an old one from a Rolling Stone interview in '79 or '80. The "Five Not So Easy Pieces" interview. I think you're right and she was using his quote in reference to Carrey and Scorsese, though she didn't make that too terribly clear.

Or, really, clear at all. Not even a smidge. That's the worst. "I'll reference some quote from a guitarist from the early 80's, who was not at the event i'm going to be talking about and had nothing to do with it, and then i'll move into my article providing absolutely no segue!!!! That's a great idea!"

Yeah, but one would expect a journalist to get it right - correct name spellings? That's proofreading 101. Not like she pulled a Dan Rather, but still....

Supposedly she doesn't write her own column anymore. She is in her eighties now.
