Thoughts on a pink shirt..

OK,

I'm just a regular heterosexual male, nothing special, boring even... The other day I decided to wear a salmon pink shirt to work and I got rather a few comments... Mostly the guys just saying it was effeminate and taking the piss.... But it made me wonder, are we so stereotyped by the clothes we wear?

Personally I have a lot of shirts in many colours and the pink one for me is just another colour.. In fact in some countries a man wearing such a colour of shirt is considered confident and self assured. So it's really odd how cultures differ..

I know I don't treat people differently if they are wearing a pair of worn jeans and an old ripped jacket or a $8000 Brioni suit, it's the manners of the person that dictate my response.. I just wondered how other people felt. Have you been treated differently, badly even, due to the clothes you wore at that time?

Well, Tusk guy at work has pink shirts in his rotation, and i think they look nice, although they do suprise me. Mainly cause i hardly ever see other guys wearing them. I like Pink, though. Ever made fun of cause of clothes and stuff? Yeah, it's called elementary, middle, jr. high, highschool   But not so much how you mean it.
Keep rocking the pink, Superfly! :wavey:

Those 'tards need to get a life

You shouldn't be judged by anything you wear, color (or colour), style, fabric, etc. It's stupid, like Amber said, it's the type of thing you'd hear in elementary/high school. Obviously, those people are insecure and probably look like sh*t in pink...they're just jealous. ;)

I've been made fun of for lots of reasons, especially when I wore NKOTB shirts or jewelry back in junior high/high school. I was also made fun of for wearing socks that said Adidas on them. Yeah, some people are stoopid. LOL

Tusk guy? Do you relate him to Fleetwood Mac or does he just look like the Elephant Man?

That was my thought too..

Or maybe it's 'cos they have to wear a blue shirt uniform and I can wear what I like within reason.. The perks of management..

How ridiculous that those guys made fun of you. Sounds like they're a little stuck in high school. High school was the last time anyone honestly ridiculed my clothes.

As for stereotyping people based on clothes, that is another story IMO. I can't remember a time since 10th grade that someone actually said something mean about something I was wearing, but people have made assumptions about me based on my clothes since I've been in college. I've had quite a few people tell me that they have a hard time believing that I'm a lesbian because my clothes are "so feminine." I haven't had anyone express that in an unkind way yet, thankfully.

I think pink looks nice on a guy. Some guys won't wear it, because they see pink as a girl color. But who ever heard of a color being girl or boy. I thought all colors were neutral. Colors are for all!!!!!!!!!! People should unite over colors, not divide! :p I say show your manliness and wear the pink with pride!!!!!!

I personally won't wear anything pink, but I also prefer to not wear a shirt that says ANYTHING, so you really can't go by me

I remember my first Betsey Johnson coat. It's one for the picture thread. It's black felt with pink wild heart prints all over it and black faux fur cuffs, collar and trim.
I had gone over to Virgin Records before my night job (I was working some concert) and these two little high school girls proceeded to follow me all over the store tittering and one of them finally blurted out "It's so ugly!" I just smiled, paid for my stuff and walked over to the theater where the music crowd flipped for it and a few of them would have like to have stolen it right off my back.
I had a lot of wild clothes from that time period including a faux leopord print coat that was much coveted by Mr. Chris Robinson of the (now defunct) Black Crowes.
I also had another Betsey Johnson dress that I used to call "June Cleaver on acid." That one got auctioned off on ebay, along with some of my more wild, expensive pieces of clothing from that time.
Did I answer the question?

Honey, you rock your Betsey Johnson floral jeans and your coats and your boots and when I'm 40, I hope i'm able to rock them that well too.

Pink shirt? Much like Stevie feeling comfort in her black dress, I say if it feels right, wear it
