Burning Dvd's

I was thinking of getting a dvd burner. Anyone have any pointers or experience doing this? Do they come out well?...etc

I have DVD recorder which hooks up to the TV, not a computer and it works great. I purchased it years ago (in 2002) for over five hundred dollars which makes me a little mad that they are so cheap now... but I couldn't help but buy one the second they came out with them! You'll never go back to a VCR again. The quality is great and being able to make menus and title the discs and edit things makes it a great little machine. The reason I got it was because I was addicted to soaps for a few years and needed a better way to record and archive all of the episodes. Now that you can get the dvd recorders for less then 200 dollars and blank dvds cost less then VHS tapes there is no excuse not to have one! :woohoo:

I have a...

self-contained Panasonic DMR-E55 DVD-R burner unit and it is a great purchase....

I can copy my VHS tapes to DVD-R with ease, And with the right electrical device I can even make copies of "copyright protected" material from either DVD or VHS.

I used it just the other night to make a copy (For my own personal use) of the Chris Isaak special that was broadcast on PBS and it turned out great beyond description (Smoked any show I ever taped via VHS/VCR)

I can record up to 8 hours at EP with a DVD-R disc or 16 hours with a DVD-RAM disc cartridge (The use of DVD-RAM discs allow for editing and can be used and erased over 100,000 without loss of quality.)

I would recommend buying a burner that uses DVD-R discs since they are the easiest DVD media to locate and purchase, Plus they are the least expensive of the DVD medias.

Try a local electronic retailer such as BestBuy, they carry DVD burners that are priced under $250.

I have a stand-alone DVD recorder for my TV as well. Works great. Only problem with having one of these rather than one for your computer is it is pretty difficult to copy DVD to DVD.

I *did* have a Liteon DVD burner for my computer too. I definitely don't recommend getting that brand if you are getting one for your computer. I've had mine for less than six months, maybe burned less than 30 DVDs on it, and it is already broken. Piece of crap.

Thanks all! I didn't realize they could make menus also. How cool! maybe when I recoup my budget after christmas I will have to get one.
