Nicks Auctions Off Two Dresses at Christies..

So Lindsey is selling his house.. John is selling his house... and Stevie is selling her clothes. What the hell is going on...

There are 5 items of Nicks things going on the auction block at Christies on December 17th in New York... Here's one them. The others are another dress, a tamborine, a sax that she and Bill Clinton signed and a small collection of records t-shirt, tour book and passes... Not cheap!

Christies Auction

STEVIE NICKS RHIANNON COSTUME $2,000 - 4,000 U.S. dollars

CIRCA 1970s
A black crepe shawl and scarf with green and blue flowered velvet brocade worn by Stevie Nicks in a video for the Fleetwood Mac song "Rhiannon." Also present is a color image of Nicks wearing the costume.

Thanks for posting that. :wavey:

I love that dress... it's in the inimitable Nicks style of course, but the blue flowered brocade makes it especially lovely.

Christies dates the dress as being circa the 1970s, but the photo is clearly from the 'Shakin' The Cage/Tango In The Night' tour in '87/'88.
I wonder if there are any photos of Stevie wearing it prior to that.

(By the way, it looks as if she's only wearing the top portion of the dress in that picture, with a different skirt.)

Also, I've never seen a "video for 'Rhiannon,'" where she's wearing that dress. Interesting.

Man---look at that itty bitty little waist!

When they said Rhiannon video, I could only think of Rosebud, but yeah Johnny, that pic is SO not the 1970's. And it's not like you have to be a Stevie fan to know that...I mean...look at the HAIR!!!

What a gorgeous piece [drools]. Let me see if I can find those Gs floating around here... ;) It must be nice to be rich. I would love to be able to cite "shopping" as a hobby, hehe.

I'm confused about the saxophone description:

In a highly publicized performance Nicks delivered a four-song set including material from her new album, Trouble in Shangri-La, and also appealed to Fleetwood Mac fans with the band's classic "Dreams."
Didn't FM play the Inaugural Ball? And wasn't Dubya president in 2001??

I think it was for the RIAA (sp.?) thing when the following exchange was made: "When were you first exposed to Stevie Nicks?" After laughs from Clinton and the audience, Clinton replied, "I've never been exposed to Stevie Nicks!" The comment was received with wild applause.

If you do a search "Bill Clinton" on the nicksfix, it will bring up the articles.

One of them has that quote

Definately a Margi Kent design!

So where does Christie's get their info from? The 2001 inaugural concert? Using that pic for a 70's era Rhiannon "video?" WTF? I'm not questioning the authenticity of these items, I'm just saying, when your target buyer is most likely a die hard fan (i.e., anyone on these boards), get your facts straight! :wavey:

I know. Plus, they should put a pic. of Steive actually in the exact outfits they are hawking  Finally, why is Stevie selling these things - I could not get all of the links to work on this computer (which is very slow) - but I did not see that Stevie is the actual seller

'Cause they don't fit her anymore. I've seen that beret on ebay and signed tambourines turn up a lot too, from various sellers. Maybe she donated the dresses and the proceeds are going to charity? Or maybe the dresses came from a Hard Rock or some other place, not Stevie herself. I don't know...but I seriously doubt she's selling stuff to make some extra cash. I don't believe SHE is selling them.

That's the same outfit and picture that was up for auction several months ago at itsonlyrockandroll.com. At least they were closer to being correct in listing it as being worn on the Tango in the Night tour (Shake the Cage.)

Isn't Stevie known for giving her things to people as kinda like souveniers? The black lace top I bought that was from the same era had a consigners tag attached with a code including the initals DOK and I thought "hmmm could it have been from Dave Koz?" But why would she have give something like that to him?

I also wondered if some of the outfits weren't samples from Margie Kent. Who knows, they could even have come from Stevie's mom. And it seems the majority of the outfits on auction were from the Tango/OSOTM era. Wonder why that is... bad memories?

Okay, well, obviously my mind runs overtime when it comes to the subject of those fabulous Margi Kent and Trashy designs. I have a real weakness for fabulous clothes even tho I work in an office and am NOT a rock and roll star in my other life. :]
