Rick Turner electric model one

Hey I'm joining a band again. I was in a band back in my college days, and my first love has come back around it seems. I am salivating at the thought of getting Lindsey Buckingham Rick Turner Model 1 for studio work and live shows. I have several other guitars including les pauls, strats and teles...but I'm missing an element somewhere. Does anyone know the cheapest way to find one? I could go through Rick Turner but they are a lot more expensive now than they used to be.

Sometimes you can find a used one on ebay for around $3000  . Obviously, I don't have one yet... :( Why must they be so damn expensive? I hate greedy people!

I really don't think there is a cheap way to find one. Rick Turner is producing about 8 a month at the moment and that varies depending on the specifications asked for.

Ebay is probably the easiest way to get one. I think Rick's probably made around 400 by now in the years since its debut in 1979. With there being so few (Fender probably knock out around 1000 guitars a day, maybe more) that is one of the reasons you pay top dollar for them. The other is both the build quality and craftmanship. I really have not seen or owned a guitar built in the same way.

It looks quite basic from the front but the multi laminate woods used in the neck are a work of art. Not only the construction but the electronics are different to a regular guitar too (I'm not going into detail here, Seteca posted a full breakdown of the tech specs a few months back on a previous M1 thread).

I think I paid around $4000 for mine back in January which included a custom case and shipment to the UK. I was lucky, I emailed Rick at just the right time and he had one ready to ship without delay  and I (for the only time I can ever remember!) happened to have the cash free to pay right away.

The normal wait time is about 6 months but again with it being a hand built guitar this can vary. If you have the cash and you want one quickly then look around Ebay, they turn up every few weeks.

It is a professional instrument and as such is priced to match, you are paying for the finest honduras mahogany and tone woods as well as details you don't get on a production guitar. it's not greed that they are priced as such, its the skill and craftmanship you pay for. Paying $15000 for a machine cut PRS or $6000 for a "custom shop" Fender Strat is in my book rather more debatable.....

Available Turner Guitars (Model 1)

I recently purchased a Model 1 here in Australia but I did see some available currently on the net from Ed Roman in Las Vegas, you might wish to try there.

Your Les Pauls & Teles will be obsolete if you get a Turner M1, so if you can do with only your Strats for a while, selling them would be a way to get the money for the M1.

Nice idea Chili, but you know and probably understand that I dont want to let go of the old workhorses.

chiliD 11-29-2004 02:44 PM

Yeah, I DEFINITELY understand. I WILL admit, even though I would probably never play it much at all, I still wish I had my Les Paul (a tobacco sunburst Standard...like Bob Welch's) just as a "collector's item".

How do you think I feel? I traded my Les Paul to get a PRS, then traded the PRS to get the Suhr built!! I'll be in therapy sometime in the future over my guitar antics...

Seriously demon, ditch the Tele and LP and get a Model 1, best move you will ever make...

Depends where you live...

If you are in the US or Asia-Pacific it's best contacting Rick directly on his business email. [email protected]

Or if you live in the UK or Europe then it's best emailing Ian Morton, Rick's UK distributor at [email protected]

Ian's a cool dude and will sort things out for you with minimum delay.
