Tusk Reissue
 

I asked for the Tusk reissue/remaster for my birthday, and I really can't wait to open it up tonight, but I just wanted to know about the bonus tracks. Are they worth it? Like the 8 minnute version of Sara? All those extras, how would you rate them?

i second that, the WHOLE cd is great. But then again, i LOVE all Mac albums :D

You will not be disappointed- The entire CD is worth it just to hear a few songs which are excellent---and since you got it as a gift...
Rip that thing open and throw it into the cd player and listen to ...
Storms, Beautiful Child, and Honey Hi ....all different versions, but they are not bad!!!! Enjoy the "new" tunes!

Mac has a perfect track record to you? Forty years' worth of albums are all equally lovable? Any other music artists about whom you feel the same way?

I respect your views & want to hear more of them, but that whole "it's all great" mentality is really alien to my sensibilities. I align myself with the most ardent fans of, say, Glenn Gould or Jorge Bolet, who still find stinkeroos in their output -- some of the Beethoven in Gould's case or the Wagner in Bolet's. I studied piano with Blanche Nissim, who was one of Bolet's students at the Philly Conservatory & a lifelong devotee to him. But we used to sit & listen to his recording of the Tannhauser overture & marvel together at how lame the playing was.

well, I fell in love with the reissue before the regular album...but the reissue doesn't have any Angel. But it does have a couple kick ass versions of SOTM.
And i don't like Sara that much, so the longer version was less than exciting, however, i love hearing stevie's voice at the beginning, cleaning lady, etc. My favorite part about the reissue is Kiss and Run, because it's like them just messing around practising and stuff. I wish there was a couple more like that. And farmers daughter is good, and what's weird is that the harmony is so tight that i can hardly distinguish Stevie's voice, and that is unusual. And as far as the regular songs that are on TUSK, there are definitely some nice versions on the second disk. I think I like a few of them better...Brown Eyes for sure, The Ledge, IKINW...well, i really enjoy it...I just wish Angel was on it so i wouldn't have to switch disks :D

I think how much you'll appreciate it will depend on whether you've heard the Tusk album before. I too got the Tusk reissue along with the Rumours reissue for my b-day. Now I'd heard Rumours a gazillion times before I got the reissue so I really appreciated the bonus tracks. But because the Tusk material was new to me except for a few tracks the bonus cd was a little boring to me at first. Now that I've listened to the remastered original a gazillion times I appreciate the bonus disk more. I love Kiss & Run (I too wish that the remasters had more conversations and jamming in them), Storms, Beautiful Child, Brown Eyes, SOTM...

And as for the cleaning lady version of Sara...I love it! But nothing IMHO can compare to the original. It has a dream-like sound to it.

Good point. I really only like the "lindsey-stevie-mick-christie(or without her)-john" lineup. So the peter green age was not-so good imo

For me, it was worth it to get the alternate Storms version and those instrumentals by Lindsey..

That's funny, although I see your point, i really don't llike the acoustic version of Storms...To me the accoustic version lacks a very definite essence that is so very important...I think it's also related to the way I don't like the loud "tick tock" on Goodbye Baby in the live versions...it's like, I appreciate the concept, and it may sound great in some other context, but there, it doesn't work very well for me. Storms just shouldn't be that even and filled...(Still Pretty Fab? or, SPF? [SPF 1 Million, baby, cause it is hot]") :laugh:

:nod: :nod: I think, for me, although I haven't yet studied it technically, that brown eyes is waaaay better for me on second disk...and I don't really listen to brown eyes much either way...but I still think it is a really good, unusual song in ways - and so I know something obvious definitely struck me between the reissue and the regular one, or else I mightn'tve remembered...
IKINW is sublime...the acoustic Storms?...well, read my previous post... :p

Angel is absolutely my favourite, favourite song......are there any known demo's, outake's, etc. of this great song? :shrug:

I don't know, on my making of video it shows them working on it in the studio, and trying different things, but i've never really heard of outtakes or demos...
