?Straight Back?
Hello.
On another thread "Straight Back" was mentioned. That got me thinking about something that has ALWAYS kinda bugged me. I've always thought that the Mirage version was "OK"...HOWEVER, I remember back in the day hearing a version on the radio which to me blew the Mirage version away... Can anyone enlighten me out there? Was this a released to radio single only? Kinda like what they did with "Say You Will"? Or am I dreaming that I ever heard it? Anyone? Thanks! |
I somehow (all things considered, luckily) ended up with two versions of Mirage on vinyl. The first one I owned has the same SB mix as the compact disc issue, and the second is without a doubt an alternate mix.
The most noticeable difference in the non-CD mix is the omission of a lot of Stevie's backing vocals. I wouldn't say this "blows the [other mix] away" (the more Stevie the better, lol), but it is an interesting oddity which I've never read an explaination of. If I didn't own both versions on vinyl I'd probably write it off as the more "vocal-ly" mix being specially made for compact disc. The most important point my post raises is that based solely on the initial question posed: your sanity is well in tact, and that counts for something. ;) Desperately seeking expert. :wavey: |
Hmmmm... I have heard some people mention that there are different versions of songs on album vs. CD (one of LB's Tusk tunes comes to mind, but I can't remember which one), but this is the first time I've heard this about Straight Back.
As far as radio, that's doubtful. Straight Back was never released as a single - I don't THINK. Paula |
The original cassette version of Mirage I have didn't have ALOT of the guitar solo stuff at the end of SB on it. I got mine on the release date. I remember hearing a friend's tape -bought 6 months later, and, voila!, they had added the guitar work at the end. I felt cheated.....why would they make an official release, then remix it later, and release it again as the same version?

"different" one is the one with the MORE vocals! LOL! I gotta dig out my Mirage LP to investigate furtherly.... |
I've heard an alternate version similar to what you're describing on one of my bootleg CDs. It's an ok song. It could've been better if the arrangement was a little more tight.
